Oregon State vs Arizona Odds, Picks, and Predictions: Points Aplenty in the Pac-12 After Dark Special

The Oregon State Beavers will look to remain in the hunt for a Pac-12 Championship berth when they head to Tempe to take on the Arizona Wildcats. 

The Beavers are coming off a bye week after three consecutive wins in conference play, while the Wildcats also are leaving a bye week after a massive beatdown over the favored Washington State Cougars.

Will Oregon St. stay in the mix at the top of the conference or will the Cats play spoiler again and cover in the college football odds this weekend?

These two teams have not met since all the way back in the 2019 season when the Oregon State Beavers outscored the Arizona Wildcats 56-38. A lot has changed for both teams since that matchup, but one thing that does remain the same is Oregon State's ability to light up the scoreboard. 

The Beavers rank 13th in the country in scoring at 38.1 points per game. They also enter Week 9 28th in total offense (444.3 yards), 20th in rushing offense (195.1 yards), 15th in yards per completion (14.3), and 17th in passing efficiency. Only Utah and San Diego State were able to keep the Beavers from reaching 36 points. 

One major reason for the Beavers' success is the play of transfer quarterback D.J. Uiagalelei. While his career was a quick bust at Clemson, he has thrived in Corvallis. He has thrown for 1,573 yards with 15 touchdowns to only four interceptions this season while adding another 124 yards on the ground with five rushing scores. 

The Wildcats don’t have quite the firepower of the Beavers, but they are no slouches themselves on the offensive end. Arizona ranks 19th in total offense (452.3 yards), 26th in passing offense (236.9 yards), 33rd in third down conversion percentage (44.2%), 19th in first downs gained (173), and 29th in passing efficiency. 

While QB Jayden De Laura has missed the last three games with an injury, Noah Fifita has filled in excellently with 946 yards through the air and eight touchdowns to only two interceptions. He almost pulled off upsets over Washington and USC before finally doing so against Washington State in beautiful fashion. 

The Wildcats are also welcoming back workhorse running back Michael Wiley to the lineup. He is expected to share carries with Jonah Coleman and D.J. Williams, who have done a really good job of filling in during his absence.

There is a solid chance both teams reach the 30-point mark in this game and that makes the Over our best bet in this one.

In a high-scoring game, a big spread can quickly be covered late in the game. That is why I like the alternate spread here on Arizona’s side, and I will take them at +14.5 to get a little insurance in case Oregon State gives up a couple of late scores. 

My favorite anytime touchdown scorer in this game is Beavers tight end Jack Velling. The sophomore has seven touchdowns this season and is the top target for the best red zone offense in the nation. 

We will also add an anytime TD scorer on the Wildcats' side, tailing receiver Jacob Cowing to find paydirt. The senior WR already has eight touchdowns this season and will be their biggest threat in the red zone on Saturday.

Oregon State vs Arizona spread and Over/Under analysis

The Wildcats may be 4-3, but they are still a legit contender to be dealt with seriously by opponents. Their three losses came by a combined 16 points against the likes of Mississippi State, Washington, and USC.

Two weeks ago, Arizona finally knocked off one of these ranked teams by smoking the Cougars 43-6. Jedd Fisch's team enters Week 9 even healthier and should be able to give the Beavers all they can handle in their home environment. 

I took an alternate spread in the same game parlay, but I would not be scared to take Arizona against the normal spread in an individual play. The Beavers will need to play their A-game if they want to avoid being the next upset victim at the hands of the Wildcats. 

The Beavers have a flawless record when it comes to converting red-zone appearances into points, scoring 21 touchdowns in 25 appearances inside the 20. On the other hand, the Wildcats rank 15th in the nation, with 21 touchdowns and eight field goals converted out of 31 red-zone attempts.
