Oregon State vs Colorado Odds, Picks, and Predictions: Buffaloes Remain Defensively Inept

With just four games to go, needing two wins to reach a bowl game, Colorado must find a way to get some stops on the defensive side of things. Unfortunately, this week's opponent has a solid run-pass balance that will leave the Buffs' defense in shambles.

What was once a promising start for Deion Sanders in Boulder has quickly crumbled. The Colorado Buffaloes enter Week 10 having lost four of their last five games and are nearly two-touchdown college football odds underdogs at home against the Oregon State Beavers.

D.J. Uiagalelei and the high-octane Beavers offense will be looking to bounce back following a disappointing loss at Arizona last week. Will the Beavs overpower a bumbling Buffs defense and cover this big number, or will Shedeur Sanders be able to do enough to keep this one close?

I break down this matchup and bring you the best bet in my college football picks and predictions for Oregon State vs. Colorado on Saturday, November 4.

Oregon State vs Colorado best odds

Oregon State vs Colorado picks and predictions

This first Colorado season with Deion Sanders at the helm has at the very least, been entertaining. That said, the results haven’t been as much fun for the Buffs and their fans of late.

The season started off on the right foot, as Colorado upset TCU and followed that up with wins over Nebraska and rival Colorado State. However, since then. The wheels have fallen off. The Buffs have lost four of their last five with the lone win coming against Arizona State.

Now, many are wondering if the Buffs will even be bowl-eligible when all is said and done this season. And the rough patch was enough that Shedeur Sanders decided to move on from offensive coordinator Sean Lewis this week, installing Pat Shurmur as the new play-caller.

But the offense hasn’t really been the problem for the Buffs. Quarterback Sheduer Sanders has been great at times and the team is averaging 32.1 points per game.

In the four losses, which included an epic choke job against Stanford, Colorado has surrendered a massive 41 points per game. And nobody in the country five up more yards per game than the Buffs. Overall, the team ranks 108th in defensive success rate, 115th vs. the pass, and 102nd vs. the rush.

Those aren’t great numbers when you are welcoming a high-power Oregon State offense to town. One that is motivated to respond after a disappointing performance last week.

Led by quarterback D.J. Uiagalelei, the Beavers are 6-2, with both losses coming by a combined six points.

With Uiagalelei and running back Damien Martinez, the Beavers boast one of the best rushing attacks in the country, ranking 14th in yards per carry and ninth in EPA/rush. But Uiagalelei’s improvements as a passer this season are what makes this Beavs’ offense dangerous. He has thrown for 1,791 yards with 17 touchdowns to just four interceptions.

Basically, Oregon State’s offense is well-balanced, doesn’t make mistakes with the football, and gets to face one of the worst defenses in the country. I’m not really sure how Colorado intends to slow the Beavers down on Saturday night. The Buffs have surrendered 42 or more points in half of their games this season. Take the Beavs to go Over their team total in this one.

My best bet: Oregon State team total Over 37.5 (-113 at FanDuel)

Oregon State vs Colorado same-game parlay

Oregon State TT Over 37.5

Damien Martinez 90+ rushing yards

Jack Velling Anytime TD

Silas Bolden Anytime TD

50% boost available

As always, our same-game parlay begins with my best bet, which for this Pac-12 matchup is Oregon State to go Over its team total of 37.5. So, how will the Beavers get there? Let me tell you.

Well, for starters, Beavers’ running back Damien Martinez will be a problem. Martinez has rumbled for 763 yards at a clip of 6.4 yards per carry and has rushed for at least 90 yards in half of his games this season. He’ll get there again going against a Colorado run defense that is giving up 4.5 yards per carry this season.

Then let’s close this SGP out with Jack Velling and Silas Bolden to both score anytime touchdowns. As noted, Colorado is even worse against the pass and these are Uiagalelei’s favorite targets. Velling, a 6-foot-4 tight end is a beast in the red zone and has already grabbed eight touchdowns this season while Bolden is the deep threat finding the endzone five times.

If this four-legger hits we cash a +482 ticket.

Oregon State vs Colorado spread and Over/Under analysis

This Pac-12 After Dark matchup hasn’t seen too much action as of yet. The spread hit the board with Colorado as a big 13.5-point underdog and that’s where the line sits as of Friday afternoon.

Now, the Buffs have been a better team as an underdog this season going 3-1 ATS, but things in Boulder look like they are spiraling at the moment. And it’s hard to trust this team with a defense this bad going against a solid offense. Even when getting this many points at home, I’m staying away from the spread here.

Meanwhile, the total opened at 62.5 and has been bet down slightly, currently sitting at 61.5. I would have a slight lean to the full game Over here since I’m backing the Beavs to have a successful night on offense. That said, it’s not a full play because I’m not sure how Sanders and the Colorado offense will respond to a new play-caller.
