The biggest news out of the Pac-12 so far this season is that former Oregon quarterback Justin Herbert appears to be better than anyone expected in the NFL, as he’s currently wrecking shop for the Los Angeles Chargers.
But if you like putting your college football betting money on the Ducks, then you know it’s “next man up” in Eugene with conference play beginning this weekend.
Let’s have a look at our best college football free picks and predictions for Stanford at No. 14 Oregon, with kickoff set for Saturday, November 7 at 7:30 ET at Autzen Stadium.
Stanford Cardinal at Oregon Ducks betting preview
Weather
Afternoon showers will give way to more rain and chilly temperatures on Saturday evening in Eugene. You can look for a temperature of 33 degrees with a slight west wind and a 54 percent chance of precipitation. Not ideal, but at least the Pac is back! Be sure to monitor the gametime conditions with our NCAA football weather info.

Against the spread (ATS) pick
It’s always a little challenging to pick the ride side when the only data you have is going back to the previous year, but that’s part of the fun, isn’t it? Stanford returns plenty of experience on offense, including nine starters. The issue is that this Cardinal team went 4-8 last season and had the 11th-worst rushing numbers in the conference. Even worse, stud offensive lineman Walker Little has decided to opt-out, creating more of a challenge for quarterback Davis Mills.
The Rose Bowl champion Ducks are hoping to reload after Herbert’s departure, and Tyler Shough takes over the reins behind a new offensive line as well, but he's got experience in the backfield as CJ Verdell is back for the Ducks and looking for his third consecutive 1,000-yard season. Meanwhile, the Oregon defense could actually improve from 2019, when it ranked 9th in the country in points allowed.
Stanford just has too many holes across the board to trust it, even with a double-digit spread. Mario Cristobal has done a fine job of stockpiling NFL talent in Eugene, and I expect Oregon to overwhelm Stanford as both teams begin their six-game slate.
PREDICTION: Oregon -10 (-110)
Over/Under pick
While the trends point to the Over, I’m trying to figure out how Stanford is going to score enough points to make that happen. The Cardinal were 108th in scoring offense a year ago, so I’m going to follow the money (and the weather forecast) and take my chances with the Under.
PREDICTION: Under 51.5 (-110)
Team total pick
This is a Stanford team that finished 3-6 in conference play last season and doesn’t look to be much better in 2020.
Mykael Wright and Kayvon Thibodeaux are just two of the young defensive stalwarts on an Oregon defense that should have no problem keeping the Cardinal off the scoreboard.
PREDICTION: Stanford team total Under 20.5 (-138)
