After a 30-27 loss to Appalachian State, Coastal Carolina fell to 24 in the AP Poll for Week 9. The perfect season is no longer intact, but the Chanticleers are still looking to win the SunBelt and potentially find a way into a big time bowl.
Meanwhile the Troy Trojans will hit the road and look to extend their winning streak to three games. Troy has close wins against Georgia Southern and Texas State and have been surprisingly competitive in most games this season, even in losses.

Troy vs Coastal Carolina predictions
Coastal Carolina -18.5 (-110)
Despite Troy being in every game, they’re not covering the spread. In games the Trojans have a big spread, they’re not getting the job done and in games they’re underdogs, they’re not able to cover the spread either.
The passing game for Troy has been a bit of a struggle with receivers that are just not to the tier of Coastal Carolina’s. The Trojans are running the ball for 112.9 yards per game but even that’s not going to get the job done while they try to keep pace with Coastal Carolina.
Defensively, however, Troy has been solid and could keep Coastal Carolina below their usual point total of 45.7. The Trojans have struggled to tackle a bit in the open field but overall, they’ve been dominant against the run, allowing just 94.4 yards per game.
On top of that, the opposition has also struggled to pass on Troy as they’re allowing just 191.4 yards passing per game. The secondary and pass rush has done their job so far this season and could give Coastal Carolina a bit of a harder time.
However, for any defense, it’s hard to stop Coastal Carolina. They’re averaging 524.4 yards per game and have one of the best and most efficient offenses in the league. Grayson McCall has thrown for 15 touchdowns and just one interception on 132 attempts and just makes the perfect reads most of the time.
With that said, the defense has been very solid too, holding teams to just 17.1 points per game and 323 yards per game. I’m just not sure Troy’s offense can do very much against Coastal.
Under 52 (-110)
Coastal Carolina has one of the best offenses in the nation. Yet here I am, taking an under.
Troy has been impressive on the defensive end this season, allowing just 285.9 yards per game through seven games. Coastal Carolina will average more than that, but Troy does deserve some respect for a very well built defense.
However, I’m not nearly as confident in the offense for Troy behind Gunner Watson, who has a QBR of just 28 since taking over for Taylor Powell who is dealing with a leg injury.
Coastal Carolina could score 31 points, cover the spread and help the under hit. That’s what I’ll be rooting for.
