Tulane vs Charlotte Player Props & Best Bets: O'Mega the Alpha Male

O'Mega Blake has been at the forefront of the Charlotte attack this season, and he'll have to be sharp as Tulane's running game figures to run up the score on the other side of the ball. Look for at least one TD from the 49ers star.

It’s the lone game on the Thursday college football slate, as the Tulane Green Wave are in Charlotte to take on the 49ers.

The Green Wave are an offensive force, ranking eighth in the country in scoring, putting up 40.8 points per game. They’re a whopping 14.5-point road favorite in the college football odds.

To no one’s surprise, their offense features prominently in my Tulane vs. Charlotte predictions for player props. But the 49ers' O'Mega Blake will also have a say in this one.

Read below for my college football picks.

Tulane vs Charlotte college football player props

Prop bet #1: Makhi Hughes 2+ TDs

+110 at DraftKings

Tucked in behind run-or-nothing military schools Army and Navy lie the Tulane Green Wave, who are producing 216.8 yards per game on the ground, which is good for 12th in the nation.

They’re led by running back Makhi Hughes, who is closing in on 1,000 yards rushing, and will need just 61 yards to hit that milestone in his ninth game.

Hughes leads the team in TDs, finding paydirt in five straight and nine overall on the season. During this current five-game win streak, the sophomore back has scored multiple TDs twice.

The Charlotte 49ers are Bottom 4 against the run in the American Athletic Conference, giving up 184.4 yards per game, and its 17 rush TDs allowed are tied for second-worst in the AAC.

Hughes will almost definitely find the end zone due to Tulane’s run-heavy attack, but there’s better juice for him to score twice against a suspect Charlotte run defense.

Prop bet #2: Darian Mensah Under 182.5 passing yards

-117 at Caesars

Freshman pivot Darian Mensah has acquitted himself quite well on the field, leading the Green Wave to five straight wins.

However, apart from a 326-yard passing gem in a win over USF, Mensah has stayed fairly quiet on the passing chart. He has thrown for 175 yards or less five times in the last six games, letting the ground game do much of the damage.

Charlotte ranks 10th in the AAC in pass defense, rung up for 230.8 yards per game, and its allowed five quarterbacks to throw for 200+ yards or more. While those stats are tempting when considering the Over, Mensah has averaged just 12.6 pass attempts during the five-game win streak.

Meanwhile, Tulane averages 43 rushes per game, and I think they are smart enough to not abandon their bread-and-butter. Look for the Green Wave to stay on script Thursday.

Prop bet #3: O’Mega Blake anytime TD

+250 at FanDuel

If Charlotte wants to keep up the pace with one of the highest scoring teams in the nation, O’Mega Blake will have to find a way to contribute.

The 49ers’ junior receiver leads the team in receptions and yards, averaging 23.3 yards per catch. He also leads all pass catchers in TD receptions with five and no other receiver on the roster has more than two. He trails only Hahsaun Wilson for the team lead with six.

Blake will line up against a Tulane defense that gives up better than 226 yards through the air, but more importantly, ranks fifth in touchdown passes allowed.

Coming off a three-catch, 128-yard effort with a TD in a win over Memphis, Blake has now caught four touchdowns in the last five meetings for Charlotte. He'll be in good position for No. 6 against the Green Wave.
