The two favorites in the American Athletic Conference meet tonight hoping to avoid a freaky Friday the 13th as the Tulane Green Wave visit the Bluff City to take on the Memphis Tigers. 

The Green Wave are riding high on a three-game winning streak following their early season loss to Mississippi. The Tigers followed up a tough loss on a neutral site to Missouri with a nice home win over Boise St. Which team will take control of the AAC in the college football odds with a win here tonight?

Last season, Tulane beat Memphis at home, 38-28, on their way to an American conference championship season. However, they will not have star running back Tyjae Spears this go around. Otherwise, both teams are returning several key players from that contest. 

The Green Wave were missing their starting quarterback, Michael Pratt, in their lone loss this season to Ole Miss. Pratt has been excellent in his three games as a starter with nine total touchdowns and only one interception. However, he may be a little dependent on the big play to put points on the scoreboard.

Tulane ranks 12th in the country in yards per completion despite ranking only 70th in passing offense. They also rank 109th in first downs gained and 116th in red zone scoring percentage with 10 touchdowns and six field goals in 22 attempts. That is an area that the Memphis defense can exploit in this matchup.

The Tigers have allowed only eight touchdowns and five field goals in 17 red zone attempts, which ranks 39th nationally. They also rank fourth in the nation in third-down percentage defense, allowing only 23.8%. Opponents have only converted 2/8 fourth down attempts as well. 

Both teams have shown the susceptibility to turn the ball over. The Green Wave have lost seven fumbles and thrown three interceptions, while the Tigers have lost two fumbles and thrown five interceptions. On defense, the Green Wave has recovered four fumbles and recorded seven interceptions. The Tigers have recovered six fumbles and recorded two interceptions. 

Between the turnovers and poor red zone percentage for Tulane, I do not see this being a high-scoring game without several big plays. Both teams have played their fair share of high-scoring games this season, but this will not be one of them. I like Memphis to keep the plays in front of them on defense and will result in an Under here.

I believe that if this turns into a shootout, then that heavily favors Tulane. Since I like the opposite, I will take an alternate spread of +3.5 on Memphis. This gives us a slightly stronger opinion on the normal spread towards the Tigers, while also giving us leeway on them losing by a field goal. 

Finally, we are going to throw in the higher-scoring half prop. Since I believe this will be a close and low-scoring game. I think it is much more likely that the offenses get tight in the second half to avoid any costly turnovers. That will create fewer scoring opportunities and therefore we will see more scoring early in the game.
