The UCLA Bruins will look to build on its strong 4-2 start to the season as it travels to Seattle to take on the Washington Huskies.

Washington has fallen to 2-3 despite playing a manageable schedule, leaving many to question the direction of this program. After being near the top of the PAC-12 standings for so many years, have the Huskies finally fallen behind the pack, or will they rebound after a slow start?

We have you covered with picks and predictions for UCLA vs. Washington on Saturday, October 16.

UCLA vs Washington predictions

I’m not sure what to make of this Washington team, but I know that most of the signs are not positive.

Head coach Jimmy Lake spoke repeatedly following his hire about focusing on an old-fashioned, physical style of football in order to grind teams down over the course of four quarters.

What have the results shown so far this season? They’re 97th in the country in rushing offense and 105th in the country in rushing defense – hardly the signs of a team dominating in the trenches.

If these Huskies aren’t good at their main priority, what exactly is the identity of this team? They sit at 1-4 ATS on the season, with the lone win against the spread coming against a hapless Arkansas State team. They lost straight up to Montana as -22.5 favorites, were demolished by Michigan, and squeaked out an overtime win over Cal before losing to Oregon State. Simply put, there hasn't been a single impressive performance to date.

At least we know what we are getting with Chip Kelly and the Bruins. They’ll look to establish the run game (18th in the country) in what appears to be a favorable matchup. Running backs Zach Charbonnet and Brittain Brown will be relied on heavily.

Their front seven has effectively limited opponents’ rushing attacks (93.2 yards per game, 14th in the nation) which is a positive sign against the Huskies. Washington quarterback Dylan Morris has 11 touchdowns and nine interceptions in his career — hardly an indicator that he will torch this Bruins secondary, their greatest weakness.

The Bruins are 4-0 ATS in their last four home games. We’ll take them as short road underdogs against the struggling Huskies.

Washington had been a dead Under team this year, going 4-1 to the Under. It's the result of a run-first team struggling to gain any ground. Defense has always been the identity of this team, and that's true again this year.

Despite the issues stopping the run, the Huskies have one of the best secondaries in the country (147 passing yards per game allowed, third in the country) led by star corner and future NFL player Trent McDuffie. They’ll be playing in front of a raucous home crowd, which could keep UCLA from running wild.

The Huskies have only gone over 54 points twice this season — by one point against Arkansas State (one of the worst defensive units in the country) and by one point against Cal in overtime.

UCLA’s strong front seven (3.1 yards per carry allowed) should limit a struggling Washington rushing attack (3.6 yards per carry). Unless the Huskies can bomb away through the air — something they are unaccustomed to doing — I see this one going Under the total
