Let's get set for a Friday night Mountain West Conference Homecoming clash between the UNLV Rebels and Utah State Aggies.
The Rebels' 4-1 start is their best since 1984, and my UNLV vs. Utah State predictions expect both groups to light up the Maverik Stadium scoreboard.

My analysis
If scoring points is all the UNLV Rebels needed to do, they’d be one of the best teams in the country.
The 41 points scored against Syracuse was the third time in five games UNLV scored at least 41+. It averages 5.7 yards per rushing attempt, and All-American wideout Ricky White III has three 100+ yard receiving games.
The Rebels meet a Utah State stop unit not stopping anyone. The Aggies yield an average of 428 yards and 41 ppg, with most of those yards allowed coming through the air (266.5), with an additional 216 rushing ypg.
The Rebels can score the football, but so can Utah State. Iowa transfer QB Spencer Petras is beginning to get comfortable in the offense, and the Aggies scored 21+ in four of their five games this season.
He’ll meet what seemed to be a stout UNLV defense until Kyle McCord and Syracuse showed up. McCord slung it for 355 yards and three TDs last week against, and Petras is coming off a huge 372-yard, three-TD ballgame against Boise State.
The Rebels’ rushing defense has been decent, but so has the Aggies' ground game. They average 140 rushing yards at home, and senior RB Rahsul Faison has three consecutive 100+ rushing nights, including 109 yards in last week's blowout loss to the Broncos.
The Homecoming crowd should see plenty of offense from both sides and a high-scoring first half of Mountain West football.

I think the Utah State Homecoming crowd will see plenty of scoring throughout this contest, with UNLV covering the 19-point spread.
The Aggies can score the football. They’ve scored at least 21+ in four of their five games, including 21 points against a tough Utah defense. The UNLV defense has been decent, but it got exposed last week by McCord, and the Rebels red zone defense has already surrendered a dozen TDs.
That should get Utah State Over the team total, but I don’t believe it will help them cover the 19-point spread. Utah State is 1-4-0 ATS and meets a UNLV side with a 4-1-0 ATS record.

- UNLV is 2-0-0 ATS as the road team and needs a huge victory. The opening -18.5 is still available but -19 (-110) is the consensus.
- Utah State is only 1-4-0 ATS and 1-2-0 ATS as the home team. The Aggies’ poor ATS record is why the number has spiked to +19 (-110) at most shops.
- The Over/Under numbers spiked after the 64.5 openers. Three of the Rebels' five games have gone over the number, while the Aggies are 3-2-0 to the over this season.
