A Mountain West showdown is on tap for Friday night in college football betting action as the Wyoming Cowboys travel to the blue turf to take on the Boise State Broncos.

Although Boise State is 14-1 all-time opposite Wyoming, the games have generally been close. Last year saw the Broncos edge out a 17-9 victory on a snowy night in Laramie.

Will the Broncos extend their dominance in the series, or will Wyoming pull off the road upset?

We’ve got you covered with our free picks and predictions for the Wyoming Cowboys vs. the Boise State Broncos on Friday, November 12.

Wyoming vs Boise State predictions

This is a double-take-inducing line. It's a matchup between two 5-4 schools that have put relatively similar products on the field in 2021, and yet the Broncos are favored by two touchdowns?

Sure, Boise State looked much improved in last week’s 40-14 drubbing of Fresno State, but the Broncos benefited from three Bulldogs turnovers in that game, and the final score is an outlier. It’s been a down year overall under head coach Andy Avalos, as the Broncos are being outgained on the season (5.3 yards per play offensively, 5.7 defensively).

Boise State usually enjoys a strong home-field advantage, but it’s worth noting that the Broncos are on a three-game losing streak at Albertsons Stadium after losses to Oklahoma State, Nevada, and Air Force. This team is more vulnerable than they've been in a long, long time. Is this Wyoming's chance to notch a win in this matchup?

Avalos gave credit to Wyoming’s physicality in press conferences this week. This will be a tough, physical football game in which Wyoming does everything in its power to muck things up and keep the score close. That’s generally a style of play that works for underdogs, especially when they have an effective running game (39th in the country with 192 yards per game) and solid defense (4.9 yards per play allowed).

Wyoming’s fantastic pass defense (ranked 4th with 155.7 yards per game allowed) should limit struggling Boise quarterback Hank Bachmeier. If Boise has to rely on the run game, it’s not exactly reassuring that it’s been held under 80 rushing yards in nearly half its games.

We’ll take the two-score underdog in what appears to be a close game.

Only one team has reached the 400-yard mark in a game against this stingy Cowboys defense, and that came all the way back in Week 2. Linebacker Chad Muma leads the way with 89 tackles (7 for losses) and earned Mountain West Defensive Player of the Week Honors after registering 11 tackles in a win against Colorado State.

Wyoming welcomes Levi Williams at quarterback for his third start behind center. Williams is a big, physical runner, which will lead to fewer passing attempts and more rushes while helping to drain the clock. The Cowboys have attempted no more than 22 passes in Williams’s two starts, and no more than 30 all season long. Boise State’s defense has found another gear lately, allowing only 18.5 points per game in its last four outings. This has the makings of a close, low-scoring ball game — give us the Under.
