“Somehow, Palpatine returned.”

That gem from “Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker” is one of the laziest written plot devices in movie history, and you could say one week of NFL football is equally lazy when it comes to calling for the heads of coaches across the league.

Which is why, with seats already hot, we're seeing Bill Belichick next team odds pop up at sportsbooks, ushering in the potential return of the NFL’s evil Emperor.

Sportsbooks are throwing gas on those office chair fires, setting NFL odds for Belichick's next team. Cue the “Imperial March”.

Bill Belichick next team favorites

Dallas Cowboys (+100)

Dallas didn’t even need to lose in Week 1 to find itself at the top of the Belichick board. The Cowboys’ collapse is coming, as sure as Jerry Jones sleeps on a bed of money, and with it will come Mike McCarthy’s pink slip.

But can Belichick be “Jerry’s guy” like every head coach since Dallas dumbfoundedly fired Bill Parcells (Belichick’s mentor) almost 20 years ago? Bill likes to have both hands on the wheel and the Cowboys’ infamous owner doesn’t ride shotgun. Not a fit.

New York Jets (+500)

Robert Saleh hitched his cart to Aaron Rodgers, and that buggy ride is still in motion after blowing a tire in Week 1 last season. Saleh has all the pieces to secure his spot in New York, boasting the best defensive group in the land and plenty of talent on offense. It all comes down to Rodgers, however.

Belichick has history with Gang Green, most notably quitting after one day as head coach to take the open job in New England back in 2000. Safe to say, that was a smart move. But could that unfinished business with the Jets — and this talented defense — lure him back to East Rutherford?

Philadelphia Eagles (+600)

The Eagles have had a tough time keeping coaches around the past few seasons. The group of assistants that won the Super Bowl in 2018 parlayed that title into head coaching gigs, leaving Philadelphia to make do with the leftovers. And it showed last season.

Philadelphia retained Nick Sirianni as head coach in 2024, putting in strong coordinators around him. But anything short of a Super Bowl appearance opens the door for Belichick to become the next head coach in the City of Brotherly Love.

Chicago Bears (+800)

Matt Eberflus has big expectations in Chicago this season. Not only do the Bears have a dangerous defense, but the front office stacked the depth chart around No. 1 overall pick and “Savior of the Midway” Caleb Williams. This team wants to win now.

The Bears have a blend of veteran pillars and fresh-faced stars, so Belichick’s “Ron Swanson-like” approach may not fly with the future of the franchise. There’s no denying his championship pedigree,

New York Giants (+1,000)

Here we go. If you’re looking for value in these “next team” markets, the Giants are it. New York could have the least talented roster in the league and that dog fart of a Week 1 effort has Brian Daboll’s job security about as shaky as a baby deer on ice skates.

Belichick has close ties to the Giants, having served under Parcells’ Super Bowl-winning staff in New York for years. And which franchise got the best of “The Hoodie” in not one, but two Super Bowls? Hey… if you can’t beat them, join them.

Las Vegas Raiders (+1,000)

Belichick has shown us a different side since being let go in New England, including his way with the ladies. His shirtless “Walk of Shame” from a 24-year-old cheerleader’s home (caught on doorbell cam) definitely fits the Sin City lifestyle.

Las Vegas quickly cast off his disciple, Josh McDaniels, but if Antonio Pierce can’t pick up where he left off in 2023, owner Mark Davis has zero qualms when it comes to dropping the axe. The Raiders have had three head coaches in four years, and Belichick is in good with (partial) ownership, as long as Tom Brady’s check clears.
