Bryce Young TNF prop pick

Over 214.5 passing yards (-115 at BetRivers)

It’s not been the season that either Bryce Young or the Carolina Panthers would have wanted after drafting the former Alabama man first overall in this year’s NFL Draft.

The Panthers come into TNF with a 1-7 record and Young hasn’t set the world alight. He’s only once had a QB rating over 100 and that was in their sole winner two weeks ago over the Texans and has nearly as many picks as he does touchdowns. Worryingly he’s only had multiple passing touchdowns in one game this season, but he should have a chance of doubling that number against a Chicago Bears defense who have allowed 2.11 passing touchdowns per game this season.

We won’t be betting on Young’s passing touchdown line though, instead, we’ll be focusing on his passing yards line, which sits at 214.5 and we’re going to take the Over.

It’s a number he’s only covered in three of seven games this season, but all three of those occasions have been within Young’s previous four games, which indicates a level of improvement as the season has developed.

This is less of a ringing endorsement of Young than it is a criticism of the Bears. The Bears simply cannot defend the pass at all and there are only four teams in the NFL who have allowed more passing yards per game than the 256.9 allowed by the Bears. That average is substantially higher than Young’s passing line and even with a shaky offensive line and a lack of real blue-chip talent in the passing game, we should see Young hit the Over.

Prop: Over 214.5 passing yards (-115 at BetRivers)

Young Over 0.5 interceptions

Hurst Over 14.5 receiving yards

I’ve got a Bryce Young-themed Same-Game Parlay for you ahead of the Thursday Night Football and it comes in at +400.

As always we’re going to start with our best bet for the article but sadly it’s not possible to get the 214.5 passing yards on a Same-Game Parlay, so we’re having to go with the slightly bigger line of 217.5 but that’s okay, I still think we’re going to see Young hit the Over. Despite Young having an inconsistent season, as many rookie QBs do, we need to consider that the Bears defense has been consistently leaky when it comes to passing yards giving Young every chance of hitting that Over.

Next, we’ll be backing Young to get intercepted. We saw enough in college to know that he’s got the tools to be successful in the NFL but he’s still learning and hasn’t fully transitioned to the pro game just yet. He’s had seven INTs in seven games so far and I feel we’re quite likely to see that trend continue against a Bears team who have six picks on the season.

Finally, we’ll be finishing off the SGP by backing Panthers’ TE Hayden Hurst to have Over 14.5 receiving yards. Hurst is a solid yet unspectacular performer but he is somebody that Young trusts. They’ve played seven games together so far this season and in those Hurst has had Over 14.5 receiving yards on five occasions and comes into this following a season-high of 54 yards against the Colts. With the Bears allowed 52 yards per game to tight ends I think we’ll see Hurst hit the Over easily.
