Trayvon Walker has surged to the top of the board as we head towards the 2022 NFL Draft but one of his former teammates on Georgia's defensive line has seen his stock cool in recent weeks.

To be fair, defensive tackle Devonte Wyatt was a fast-riser himself not long ago but character questions may see him drop out of the first round. We try to find betting value on that angle as we look at the NFL Draft odds market and Wyatt's draft position prop.

Read below to find out why our latest NFL Mock Draft has Wyatt going outside of the first 29 picks in the 2022 NFL Draft this Thursday.

NFL Draft 2022 Devonte Wyatt draft position pick

  • Wyatt draft position Over 29.5 (-115)

Pick made on April 27, 2022.

Devonte Wyatt was among several defensive stars who helped the Bulldogs win their first national championship since 1980. While his stats didn't jump off the page (seven tackles for loss and 2.5 sacks), that was true for all of the Bulldogs with multiple UGA defenders swarming to the ball and so many three-and-outs for opposing teams.

Wyatt was viewed as a second-round talent prior to the Senior Bowl where he dominated in one-on-one practices and saw his stock rise. That stock surged even further after he weighed in at 304 pounds at the combine and blazed a 4.77 40-yard-dash.

By the middle of April, the NFL Mock Draft Database consensus board had Wyatt at No. 25 with several prognosticators projecting him to go as early as No. 17 to the Chargers. However, some major character concerns have surfaced with some teams supposedly removing Wyatt from their board altogether.

Wyatt faced three charges linked to a domestic incident in 2020, and Walter Football reported that private investigators from a team found out about three other additional domestic violence instances as well.

To be fair, athletic, quick-twitch interior linemen are a rare commodity which could keep Wyatt in the first-round mix. However, defensive tackle has also become a bit of an undervalued position in recent years, with teams more concerned with loading up on edge rushers and cornerbacks to combat downfield passing attacks.

Teams will likely have to do their own investigations to see what conclusions they come to regarding Wyatt's character. While some franchises will be willing to roll the dice with Wyatt on Day 2, he might represent a significant risk for anyone in the first round. This is especially the case with most of the teams linked to Wyatt having multiple other needs to address.

If Kayvon Thibodeaux can supposedly fall due to "character concerns" about his lack of love for the game, then a lesser prospect like Wyatt can certainly tumble over multiple family violence allegations.
