Jalen Hurts Odds & MNF Props: Put On Your Dancing Shoes

Jalen Hurts will miss his top target as A.J. Brown watches from the sidelines with an injury. With Saquon Barkley on hand to pick up the slack, he and Hurts will be pounding the rock on the ground, and our Hurts props are fading his completions.

The Philadelphia Eagles return home to host the Atlanta Falcons at Lincoln Financial Field on Monday Night Football.

All eyes will be on quarterback Jalen Hurts odds, who has some doubters after how last season ended. He helped lead the Eagles to a comeback victory in Week 1 and may have an easier time against this Falcons team.

Read on for my Hurts-related props for Falcons vs. Eagles on Monday, September 16th. For more on this prime-time clash, check out Jason Logan's Falcons vs. Eagles predictions.

My analysis

The Philadelphia Eagles are home favorites in their first game back in North America after opening the season with a back-and-forth win in Brazil. Jalen Hurts only completed 20 passes on 34 attempts in the victory, which required a second-half comeback for the Birds.

In a home Monday Night Football matchup against the Atlanta Falcons, I expect Hurts to go Under 20.5 completions again for a few key reasons.

First of all, top wide receiver A.J. Brown will miss the game due to a hamstring injury. While DeVonta Smith is a great wide receiver in his own right, and newcomer Jahan Dotson could see a bigger role alongside tight end Dallas Goedert, one less key target for Hurts could cause the Eagles to dial up a more run-heavy approach.

The fact that the Eagles are decent favorites against the Falcons also presents a game script that should lead to the Birds running down the clock in the second half with handoffs to their new shiny toy, Saquon Barkley.

Barkley ran for 109 yards on 24 carries in the season opener, including two touchdowns. Hurts also carried the ball 13 times with Kenneth Gainwell getting just one carry.

The Eagles may look for Hurts to command the passing game in the first half, and possibly into the third quarter if the game is close, but the Falcons didn’t give much reason to believe in them after a Week 1 loss to the Steelers.

Atlanta mustered just 10 points, including none in the second half, in its Week 1 loss

Jalen Hurts MNF same-game parlay

Jalen Hurts 25+ rush yards

Saquon Barkley 90+ rush yards

Eagles 1st half/regulation winner

While we don't expect Hurts to pass the ball too much, he should still be plenty active on the ground. He had those 33 yards last week and the Falcons allowed Justin Fields to run for 57 yards on 14 carries, including a 12-yard scurry. Hurts ran for at least 25 yards in his first six games last season and in 13 of 17 regular-season contests.

Barkley should get plenty of carries on Monday night in his home debut and he should be able to get at least close to 100 yards again here after clearing the century mark last week.

Finally, the Falcons didn’t show much bite in Week 1. They only led at halftime (10-9) after the Steelers offense stalled on three drives for field goals in the first half. I don't expect the Eagles to have nearly as much trouble given their offensive weapons.
