If the Chicago Bears draft Caleb Williams in the 2024 NFL Draft and go on to find success down the line, the first heartfelt "thank you" message should be directed at the Carolina Panthers.

The Panthers have as big a part to play in Justin Fields potentially leaving Chicago as the Bears do. If not for their desire to swap first-round picks last season and draft Bryce Young, the Panthers may (or may not) have had the worst record this year in the NFL — thus giving the Bears the No. 1 overall pick and leaving them with a franchise-altering decision.

This butterfly effect moment could turn into a blessing for both the Bears and Fields, or it could set both back.

Either way, the writing does appear to be on the wall as Fields' time in Chicago is up, but the young QB still needs a landing spot.

Join me as I break down the NFL odds for Justin Fields' next team below.

Justin Fields' situation at a glance

Justin Fields has shown glimpses of being a really good quarterback in the NFL, but the Bears simply gave him no talent to work with. Through three seasons, he's thrown for just 40 passing touchdowns and 30 interceptions, while completing under 62% of his passes each season.

While those numbers don't exactly scream franchise QB, Fields is a hot commodity since he's still on a rookie contract with a potential fifth-year option. A fresh start with a team that wants him, and that has the talent in place around him, could be exactly what Fields needs to succeed in the NFL.

He's coming off the best passing season of his short career, and his ability to build chemistry with a No. 1 receiver (DJ Moore) should have interested teams excited about his unlocked potential.

Justin Fields' next team favorite

Atlanta Falcons (+110)

If the Atlanta Falcons want to compete in the NFC South this year, or just in the NFL in general, they are going to need to make a move for Justin Fields.

Over the last two seasons, they trotted out Marcus Mariota, Taylor Heinicke, and their third-round pick in the 2022 NFL Draft, Desmond Ridder. At this point in their careers, none of those guys are the long-term answer, but I believe Justin Fields is.

Given the talent Atlanta already possesses, Fields would slot in nicely and instantly become the best quarterback in the division (not to mention, the one with the most upside).

The Falcons make sense, they just have to find a way to land reel in the fish.

Pittsburgh Steelers (+225)

Speaking of teams who desperately need a quarterback, the Pittsburgh Steelers make a ton of sense.

That is, of course, if they are willing to admit their mistake with Kenny Pickett and move on from the former Pitt Panther after just two seasons. The offense has pieces, and with a new OC in town, Fields could be the missing piece Tomlin has been looking for since Big Ben retired.

Don't tell Mason Rudolph I said that.

Chicago Bears (+275)

The Chicago Bears can't quite get out of their own way.

After drafting Mitchell Trubisky with the second overall pick in 2017, they ran him out of town after just four seasons. Fields would be lucky to last four seasons in the Windy City, but the Bears simply can't afford to pass up on Caleb Williams.

The amount of back and forth between Fields and Chicago has been petty, and I don't believe there's a way to repair the relationship.

Justin Fields' next team odds pick

Atlanta Falcons (-250)

I hate to take the easy way out, but with the way things are trending in favor of the Bears selecting Caleb Williams, Fields will be left needing a place to call home next year and the Falcons are the ideal landing spot.

Not only do they have young talent to surround Fields with in Bijan Robinson, Kyle Pitts, and Drake London, they have a new head coach in Raheem Morris and a new OC in Zac Robinson.

The writing is on the wall. All the Falcons need to do is pick up the phone and make it happen.

My pick: Atlanta Falcons (-250 at DraftKings)
Pick made on February 28, 2024
