Happy Thanksgiving! While everyone is gleeful that we have two games to whet our NFL betting appetite on Thursday, the reality is that all four of the teams playing (thanks to COVID-19 causing the primetime game to be moved to Sunday) are very, very bad. So instead of the teams, we're going to get in the festive spirit and focus on the things we can be thankful for.
Let's start with everyone at Covers being thankful that this competition is the betting version of the NFC East: It's been such a wasteland of loss and disappointment that everybody still has a shot (seriously, the third-place guy is 1-10 on the year). Gobble.
Defending champion Andrew Caley can also be thankful that everybody has forgotten how to handicap NFL odds, because despite taking the "easy" route each week with teasers – and still losing – he's sitting in second place in the hunt for a title nobody deserves. Rob Hansen is thankful that his poems are funny, because the jokes that are his weekly picks are really falling flat, while our beloved Jameson Mossman is thankful for a Week 11 victory...which moves him from "dead last" to "almost dead last".
But hey, it's the little things, right? At least we are thankful for NFL this Thanksgiving, and the hope that a new week brings. On to our Week 12 parlay and teaser picks.
NFL Thanksgiving Teaser Picks Week 12
Jason Logan, Senior Industry Analyst (@CoversJLo)
We’re talking turkey with a 6-point teaser on Thanksgiving Thursday. Moving Washington-Dallas total down to 40 and going Over, upping Houston-Detroit to 57.5 and going Under, and pushing Houston over the fence to a 3-point underdog. It’s all gravy baby.
PICK: 6-point teaser (Washington-Dallas Over 40, Houston-Detroit Under 57.5, Baltimore-Pittsburgh Over 39) +160
Season: -1.80 units
Jameson Mossman, Social Media Coordinator (@Covers_JaMo)
Some may have thought that I would have had more luck playing pick up sticks with my butt cheeks than I would at picking parlay winners, but joke's on them because I hit last week! My picks for Thanksgiving might not be pretty but they’ll get us where we need to go.
First two games find a way to go Over the teased Total, and let’s go Washington football team +9.
PICK: 3 game 6-point teaser (Washington-Dallas Over 40, Detroit/Houston Over 45.5, Washington +9) +160
Season: -4.5 units
Rob Hansen, Content Coordinator (@Mookie_45)
There once was a Thanksgiving turkey,
That was overcooked and as dry as old jerky.
COVID wiped out Thursday's good game,
And that is certainly lame.
This card is now as lame as tofurkey.
PICK: 6.5-point teaser (Detroit +9.5, Houston-Detroit Under 57.5, Dallas +3.5) +140
Season: -3.4 units
NFL Thanksgiving Parlay Picks Week 12
Andrew Caley, Senior Editor (@Covers_Caley) ***Defending Champion***
Well, since we've been thrown a little Turkey Day curveball, The Champ thought he might mix it up as well with a mini two-player prop parlay. Deshaun Watson should work over the Lions' secondary. And the Football Team's pass defense has been outstanding, meaning it could be a long day for Michael Gallup.
PICK: Player Prop Parlay (Deshaun Watson Over 299.5 Passing Yards, Michael Gallup Under 39.9 Receiving Yards) +235
Season: +0.62 units
Rohit Ponnaiya, Digital Content Producer (@Covers_Ro)
On this very special Thanksgiving episode of me losing parlays, I'm gonna start off by rolling the dice on the Cowboys coming away with a victory against Washington, and with a resurgent Red Rifle combined with a brutal defense, I'm also leaning Over. The Lions and Texans have two bottom-10 offenses, and with Detroit coming off a game where they were shut out, this total looks too high.
PICK: 3 play parlay (Dallas -3, Dallas-Washington O46, Detroit-Houston U51.5) +629
Season: -3.2 units
Brandon DuBreuil, Content Manager (@CoversBD)
Bit of a slump here but looking to get back on track on Turkey Day.
With Baltimore-Pittsburgh OTB, we’re going to reload by simply teasing both ‘dogs up six points as I see both games being tight on Thursday afternoon.
PICK: 6-point teaser (Detroit +9, Washington +9) +120
Season: -1.33 units
AJ Salah, Publishing Editor (@Salas42_)
This year, I’m thankful for my Covers teammates having a collective down-year on the teaser and parlay circuit. Otherwise, I feel like there’s no chance I’d still be in contention for this thing. But I’m cooling off faster than the weather (or the Bears, sorry Mook) and need a W to right the momentum.
It’s really tough to bet against Deshaun Watson with so many Lions weapons possibly out. So I won’t. Dallas showed signs of life last week and could surprise in a close matchup. We're going back for seconds with a Dallas-WFT Under, and hopefully, stinging some extra cash for Black Friday sales.
PICK: Houston -3, Dallas -3, Dallas-Washington Under 46 (+629)
Season: +2.08 units
Patrick Everson, Senior Writer (@Covers_Vegas)
I’m clearly not good at stacking up these parlays, so there’s no sense in spending much time on this for the Thanksgiving Day Football Feast.
I’m taking the home team in both games, standard two-team parlay. Matthew Stafford and the Lions need to give Michiganders something to be thankful for this year, so gimme Detroit +3 vs. the Texans. The Cowboys are home on a short week, coming off a good win, so I’ll take ‘em -3 vs. WFT. By the way, if WFT coaches/front office make some crazy decisions as the season goes on, I think we should call them WTF, instead.
PICK: Detroit +3, Dallas -3 (+265)
Jared Hochman, Publishing Editor (@JLHoch)
Man, looking at my weekly picks is akin to getting served turkey bacon with undercooked potatoes and "Brown Sauce" instead of gravy: it's kinda close but afterward, you just have this awful feeling in your stomach. We're thankful (see what I did there?) that we're still somehow in this competition, so let's strike while there's still a chance for redemption:
I like Watson to feast on the Lions like fat, juicy turkey leg—and I'm going for a second helping of Texans offense because it's that damn good. Then I'll add Alex Smith and the Football Team to fluff up their points like a fresh batch of stuffing. And since we've lost our primetime game, I guess I'll just cap off the day with a delicious slice of Kahlua cheesecake (it's momma Hochman's specialty and it's TO DIE FOR).
PICK: Deshaun Watson O2.5 TD passes, Washington Team Total O21.5, Houston Team Total O27.5 (+844)
Season: -0.06 units
Josh Inglis, NFL Writer (and Aero hater) (@inglis_josh4)
51 points is a lot considering the Lions didn't even make it in the red zone last week in their 20-0 loss to the Panthers. HOU/DET Under 51.5. Dallas is not a 31-point team like last week showed and they were outgained by 3.6 yards per pass to the Vikes. WSH +3
PICK: Houston/Detroit Under 51.5, Washington +3 (+250)
Season: -5.8 units
1st: AJ Salah: +2.08 units
2nd: Andrew Caley: +0.62 units
3rd: Jared Hochman: -0.06 units
4th: Brandon DuBreuil: -1.33 units
5th: Jason Logan: -1.8 units
6th: Rohit Ponnaiya: -3.2 units
7th: Rob Hansen: -3.4 units
8th: Jameson Mossman: -4.5 units
9th: Josh Inglis: -5.8 units
10th: Patrick Everson -7.36 units
Standings are somewhat irrelevant—if you're not first...you're last.
