Betting trend to know
The Raiders are 8-1 ATS in the preseason since Jon Gruden returned as head coach. Find more NFL betting trends for Raiders vs. Rams.
Against the spread (ATS) pick
The Rams have already stated that we won’t be seeing their starters in the preseason, which gives a massive edge to the Raiders. Los Angeles doesn’t quite have the same depth as Las Vegas — which tends to be the price you pay when you trade all of your draft picks — and Jon Gruden tends to take all games rather seriously.
We might not see Derek Carr for the Raiders in this game, but it does seem like there’s a chance Marcus Mariota will play a bit. If that’s the case, look for this offense to really give the Rams some trouble. Mariota might not be what he was expected to be coming out of Oregon, but he’s one of the best backups in football and his ability to run will be tough for second-string players to keep up with. Also, Nathan Peterman might be a punchline on social media, but he’s good enough to make plays against third-string players.
Defensively, the Raiders were swarming in their opening game against the Seahawks, and the reports out of their joint scrimmages with the Rams have been bullish. This Las Vegas team really should be able to take care of business against Los Angeles in this one, which is part of the reason this line has moved so much since opening.
PREDICTION: Raiders -6.5 (110)
Over/Under pick
The Seahawks and Raiders combined to score just 27 points in the first preseason game, and the Chargers and Rams put up a total of 19 in theirs. Neither of these teams seems well equipped to score a ton of points without their starters playing.
The Raiders might get something going if Mariota does end up seeing the field, but it’s not likely that Las Vegas has enough firepower to carry Los Angeles to an Over in this game.
Bryce Perkins made some plays for the Rams in his first taste of preseason action, but the Raiders should be able to stop him.
PREDICTION: Under 35.0 (-110)
