The forecast for Philadelphia has gotten worse as the week’s gone on. Cloudy skies have given way to rain, and now a mix of snow for this 3 p.m. ET kickoff on Sunday.
Models call for a 70% chance of precipitation around this start time, with snow showers changing to full-blown snow for most of the game.
Hourly looks show heavier snowfall from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. ET, which will be enough to accumulate on the field and impact visibility. That is expected to lighten with snow changing back to sleet around the fourth quarter.
Game-time temperatures will be in the mid-30s to start but will cool off in the second half, feeling more like 25 degrees in the final 30 minutes.
Sustained winds of 8 mph will hit gusts up to 17 mph, blowing NNW from end to end at the Linc with winds calming to 13 mph gusts in the final two quarters. Wind shouldn’t play much of a factor, outside of blowing snow around.
This current forecast is a far cry from California and gives the Philadelphia Eagles an edge over their indoor opponent. However, Los Angeles Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford has had plenty of experience playing in cold weather during his long tenure with Detroit, which took him to Green Bay and Chicago.
If the snow is as heavy as expected, deep looks downfield could be tough to connect on with visibility limited. That again gives Philadelphia the advantage, with its attack anchor in the run game. To that note, any snow accumulation can make the field slippery, which has an impact at the line of scrimmage as linemen don’t have solid footing.
This total opened at 44.5 and dropped to 43.5 but has come back to 44 points.
