It was supposed to be a match made in heaven when the Denver Broncos acquired Russell Wilson from the Seattle Seahawks in exchange for a pirate's ransom.

What transpired was two awful seasons — 11 wins in total — and Wilson being a healthy scratch for his team's final two games of 2023-24, even though the Broncos had a sliver of hope to make the playoffs going into Week 17.

Fast forward to March 4, and the Broncos have officially released Wilson.

NFL odds have hit the board for Wilson's next team. The Pittsburgh Steelers find themselves as the frontrunners, but is there a team offering better value out there? Let's start digging into the market.

Russell Wilson's situation at a glance

Russell Wilson's two-year tenure with the Denver Broncos has been disastrous, with Wilson compiling an 11-19 record under center. The Broncos traded away two first-round picks and two second-round picks along with multiple players to the Seattle Seahawks for Wilson, and they inked him to a massive five-year, $242.6 million contract.

Not only is Wilson owed $39 million in 2024-25, but he would also be due another $37 million if he's unable to pass a physical on March 5. After the Broncos gave Wilson an ultimatum to change that $37 million provision in his contract or get benched, Wilson refused. Denver made the risk-averse decision to sit Wilson ahead of Week 17, and the rumor mill quickly heated up.

Russell Wilson's next team favorite

Pittsburgh Steelers (-200)

The Pittsburgh Steelers appear to be trending in the direction of moving on from Kenny Pickett as their starting quarterback, but is Russell Wilson really the guy they want leading them?

While he may fit into the Mike Tomlin mold, scrambling around with no real running game is not a spot I see Wilson thriving. Yet, despite my opinion, the odds suggest otherwise.

Las Vegas Raiders (+275)

Like the Falcons, the Las Vegas Raiders are also trying to be in "win now" mode, they just haven't had much success lately. But firing Josh McDaniels and promoting Antonio Pierce to interim and eventually full-time head coach seemed like a step in the right direction. If nothing else, it made All-Pro WR Davante Adams happy.

The Raiders went from Derek Carr to Jimmy Garoppolo and, due to yet more injuries for Jimmy G, Aidan O'Connell at quarterback this year. If Wilson can re-discover the form that made him an all-time Seahawks great, he would undoubtedly represent an upgrade at the position.

Atlanta Falcons (+450)

It's possible that the Atlanta Falcons could see Wilson as Desmond Ridder 2.0 and take a chance on him. Ridder was only a third-round pick, making it less likely that the Falcons will try to shoehorn him into the lineup in 2024-25. Not to mention that they benched Ridder on two separate occasions last season.

If released (because no team is trading for Wilson's onerous contract), Wilson could find Atlanta appealing with Kyle Pitts, Drake London, and Bijan Robinson surrounding him on offense. The Falcons' defense was rock-solid last year too and the NFC South is a winnable division as well.

Las Vegas Raiders (+275)

Before the Wilson trade to Denver was announced in 2021, ESPN reported that the Chicago Bears, Dallas Cowboys, and New Orleans Saints were on Wilson's wish list of destinations, along with the Raiders. Of that quartet, the Raiders are the only destination that makes sense. The Bears are likely to either stick with Justin Fields or draft Williams, the Cowboys are keeping Dak Prescott, and the Saints are unlikely to end the Carr experiment after one season.

Adding fuel to the fire, an anonymous NFL executive told ESPN's Jeremy Fowler that he believes Las Vegas would be the team to land Wilson should the Broncos release him, saying the Raiders, "need a vet, and they are one of Wilson’s original teams he wanted to go to. He’d stay in the [AFC West], West Coast, and [Wilson’s wife] Ciara can do a [Las Vegas] residency."

The Raiders could be more appealing to Wilson than ever should he become a free agent, as he would have two "revenge" opportunities per season versus the Broncos. Las Vegas looks like the right bet at the right price.
