The Minnesota Vikings’ hopes of clinching the No. 1 seed rest on the shoulders of Sam Darnold, who has led this team to a level that nobody expected.
For Darnold, it marks a chance for redemption after initially being deemed a bust. Darnold has traveled the path previously trodden by Geno Smith, becoming a backup at a well-run organization before ultimately starting and putting together an incredible season — one which might earn him the Comeback of the Year award.
Darnold has thrown for over 4,000 yards and has averaged 259.5 yards per game. He comes into this on the back of a great game as the Vikings beat the Packers, with Darnold passing for 377 yards and three touchdowns.
Meanwhile, the Detroit Lions defense has been getting torched all season long. Only the Jaguars have allowed more than the Lions average of 250.4 passing yards per game, and Aaron Glenn's unit very much follows the ‘bend, don’t break’ ideology.
It was only a few weeks ago when Josh Allen eclipsed 350+ passing yards against the Lions. With a talented group of pass catchers at Darnold's disposal and Detroit's offense remaining lethal, back Darnold to let it rip in a Sunday Night shootout.
