Against the Spread (ATS) Pick
What a difference a week can make. Last week, in one of the most head-scratching lines of the year, the Bills were 1.5-point underdogs on neutral ground against the 49ers. After easily winning that game, they are now short 2-point faves against a Steelers team that was undefeated just days ago.
Pittsburgh is coming off their first loss of the year, a 17-23 defeat against Washington where they played completely flat during the second half. However, there's a reason that the Steelers were unbeaten until Week 13, they have one of the most dominant defenses in the league along with a capable offense led by quarterback Ben Roethlisberger.
Truth is, Pittsburgh was in a very tough spot on Monday, coming off just four days off after the league kept pushing back their game against the Ravens. They should be in a good position to bounce back against a Bills team that looks like the cream of the crop in the AFC East, but has flaws.
Buffalo's defense ranks 23rd in the league in yards per play allowed, and ranks 24th in opponent third-down conversion rate. That gives the Steelers value in a rare role as underdogs.
PREDICTION: Pittsburgh +2 (-110)
Over/Under Pick
We mentioned that the Steelers have a dominant defense and that might be an understatement. Pittsburgh ranks near the top of the league in every defensive metric, leading the league in points allowed, sacks and takeaways.
They are equally strong against both the run and pass, ranking first in the league in pass defense DVOA and third in rush defense DVOA.
While the Bills have an explosive offense centered around quarterback Josh Allen and wide receiver Stefon Diggs this will be their toughest test of the season.
When you factor in the messy weather expected for Sunday night and the fact that both teams have struggled to run the ball, and you have us leaning towards the Under.
PREDICTION: Under 48 (-110)
First Quarter Bet
The Bills defense hasn't been great, ranking near the middle of the league in most categories. However, they have been terrific in the early going, holding opponents to just 3.6 points per game in the opening quarter.
That number is good for third-best team in the league. The team which allows the fewest first-quarter points per game is...you guessed it, Pittsburgh who holds foes to just 3.1 ppg in the first 15 minutes.
Expect a slow start in this one and back the Under on the first quarter total.
PREDICTION: First quarter total Under 10 (-120)
Steelers vs Bills Betting Card
- Pittsburgh +2 (-110)
- Under 48 (-110)
- First quarter total Under 10 (-120)
