The NFL Week 10 schedule sees plenty of games being played indoors, so the weather won’t play too much of a disruptor.
That is unless the Arizona Cardinals decide to open their retractable roof in the middle of a hailstorm again. WTF?
For those games taking place in open-air venues, there's wind, rain, and unseasonable heat to note before placing your NFL picks and predictions.
Here’s the NFL Week 10 weather report and how the elements could impact the odds and the outcomes.
New England Patriots at Chicago Bears weather
The Windy City lives up to its name this Sunday with sustained winds flirting with 20 mph blowing SWS at Soldier Field. Those breezes will reach gusts as high as 33 mpg, moving from corner to corner.
There’s also a threat of morning showers carrying over to the 1 p.m. ET kickoff, with a 25% chance of precipitation for Chicago. However, most models expected any rain to clear the area by the afternoon.
This total opened at 38.5 points and is up to 39 O/U at some books.
Stronger winds could give the kicking game fits. The Chicago Bears and New England Patriots haven’t kicked many field goals this season and their respective kickers are OK, with Chicago’s Cario Santos going 11 for 13 on FGAs and New England’s Joey Slye at 12 for 15 on the year.
The deeper passing game could also be impacted, with rookie QB Caleb Williams sitting ninth in intended air yards and fellow first-year passer Drake Maye pushing the ball downfield more than Pats’ former starter Jacoby Brissett.
Minnesota Vikings at Jacksonville Jaguars weather
The forecast for Duval County calls for sustained winds of 12 mph with gusts up to 22 mph, blowing ESE from sideline to sideline at EverBank Stadium on Sunday.
Temperatures are a little warmer than usual, with the “feels like” temps around 85 degrees. There are also scattered showers in the area, with some weather models calling for a 60% chance of rain around 1 p.m. ET.
The Jacksonville Jaguars look like they’ll be without starting QB Trevor Lawrence for Week 10 and that’s taken this total down from an opener of 47.5 to as low as 44 points on Thursday.
Jacksonville was running an aggressive playbook, with Lawrence ranked third in intender air yards per attempt and the Jags hitting 31 passing plays of 20 or more yards (tied for fourth most). Now, with backup Mac Jones under center, offensive coordinator Press Taylor could reel in those deeper play calls, especially against a blitz-heavy Minnesota Vikings defense that doesn’t allow for much time in the pocket in order for longer routes to develop.
As for the Vikings, this will be just the third outdoor game for them this season. Sam Darnold has also been looking downfield, ranked fifth in intended air yards along with 32 passing plays for 20-plus yards. Wind and rain could make tracking down those deep balls more difficult and plague the kicking teams.
Minnesota does have some notable injuries on special teams in Week 10. Kicker Will Reichard went down with a quads injury last week and the team brought in replacement John Parker Romo, who has never kicked in a regular season game. Long snapper Andrew DePaola is also on IR, forcing the Vikes to add veteran Jake McQuaide.
San Francisco 49ers at Tampa Bay Buccaneers weather
It’ll be a little warm for November in Tampa this weekend, with temperatures going to “feel like” the mid-90s.
That swing in temperature could cook up strong winds as well, with some weather models calling for sustained winds of 12 mpg spiking with gusts of 25 mph, blowing ESE from sideline to sideline at Raymond James Stadium.
Tampa Bay’s passing game has gotten much shorter since WRs Mike Evans and Chris Godwin went down with injuries. San Francisco 49ers QB Brock Purdy will aim beyond the chains, ranking No. 2 in intended air yards per attempt, and get some top targets back.
Buccaneers’ kicker Chase McLaughlin has been a steady leg, going 14 for 15 on FGAs and 27 for 28 on PATs. San Francisco could have kicker issues, with Jake Moody listed as questionable and backup Matthew Wright on IR. Anders Carlson could be called on once more to fill in (5 for 5 FGAs, 3 for 4 PATs).
This total currently sits at 50.5 points, up from the opener of 47.5 O/U with the 49ers getting some top weapons back.
Denver Broncos at Kansas City Chiefs weather
Arrowhead Stadium will have sustained winds of 12 mph with gusts getting up to 21 mph, moving west from corner to corner.
This isn’t a very disruptive weather report, as both kickers (Will Lutz and Harrison Butker) are solid. It won’t influence the offenses either.
Kansas City Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes owns the second-lowest average intended air yards per attempt in the land while Denver Broncos rookie passer Bo Nix is up there for intended air yards but among the bottom of the league in completed air yards.
This total is at 41.5 points, which should it close there or shorter would be only the sixth Over/Under below 42 points for Kansas City since Mahomes took over as QB1 in 2018 (2-4 O/U in those games).
