Two teams that rolled into the NHL All-Star break hot try to open the stretch run of the season in the same fashion, as the Vancouver Canucks visit the Carolina Hurricanes tonight in Raleigh.
The Hurricanes have at least one point in 18 of their last 21 outings, a big reason they're -143 moneyline favorites in the NHL odds.
Still, Carolina’s recent success is matched by the West-leading Canucks, who haven't lost in regulation in more than a month. They own an 11-game point streak, winning four of their last five games.

Canucks vs Hurricanes predictions
You have to go back to January 4 to the last time the Vancouver Canucks failed to pick up a point, a 2-1 loss to the St Louis Blues.
The Canucks have found their success by being a two-way force. They’ve been the league leaders in scoring since the season started — pouring in 3.8 goals per game — while their 2.55 goals allowed sits second-best behind only the Jets.
The Carolina Hurricanes are right in the thick of the top teams in the East, with their 61 points good for second in the Metropolitan Division, and the fourth-best mark in the conference. Their 3.38 gpg has them in the Top 10 in the league, while their goals against of 2.94 per contest has them in 12th.
This will be the second and final regular season meeting between these teams, with Vancouver winning on home ice 4-3. PNC Arena is not an easy place to win, as the Hurricanes boast an impressive 15-5-4 mark at home.
But I think the Canucks provide great value as a road dog with plus odds — their 15-7-3 road mark is tied with the Kings for most away wins in the West.
My best bet: Canucks moneyline (+120 at SIA)
Canucks vs Hurricanes same-game parlay
There’s probably not a better option to take as an anytime goalscorer than Elias Pettersson. The 25-year-old Swede was on fire last month, scoring 14 goals in 13 games.
He’s up to 27 goals on the year, which puts him in ninth place. In what I anticipate being a well-contested game with a good amount of scoring, Pettersson should be prominent.
So should J.T. Miller, one more piece of Vancouver's vaunted “Lotto 6-40-9” line, consisting of Brock Boeser, Pettersson and Miller.
J.T. may only have two goals in his last nine games heading into the midseason break, but the rugged winger has had a knack for scoring against Carolina. Miller has scored in three straight games vs the Hurricanes, tallying four goals overall.

Canucks vs Hurricanes moneyline and Over/Under analysis
Vancouver has been as long as +145 underdogs on the moneyline in this head-to-head, which makes sense as they’ve gone just 1-3-1 in the last five at PNC. However, most books have brought that number down, with Vancouver pegged mostly in the +120 range.
Carolina has been tabbed as long as -163 favorites, with most sites settling in at around -145.
As for the total, the line has stayed mostly at 6.0 and topping out at 6.5 goals, with a few 5.5-goal lines no longer available. Not a surprise the league’s scoring leaders would have a great Over record, as Vancouver sports a 29-17-3 mark. Carolina has split the Over/Under record right down the middle, going 24-24-0 in 48 games.
