The Vegas Golden Knights continue their homestand with a matchup against the Calgary Flames as NHL odds favorites at T-Mobile Arena on Tuesday night.

Calgary is coming off a hard-fought loss in Colorado last night where the Flames blew a 5-3 lead in the 6-5 defeat. The Flames have now lost four of their last five games.

Meanwhile, the Golden Knights have won three straight games and five of their last six after a three-game skid.

Can Vegas protect the fortress on Tuesday night? Read on for our December 12 Flames vs. Golden Knights NHL picks and predictions.

Flames vs Golden Knights odds

Flames vs Golden Knights predictions

The Vegas Golden Knights are off to a strong start this year at 19-5-5 after winning the Stanley Cup last season.

They rank 10th in goals per game (3.31) and second in goals against per game (2.34). On the flip side, the Calgary Flames are allowing the sixth-most goals per contest (3.43) while scoring the 11th-fewest (2.96).

The Flames allowed three third-period goals in Monday night’s loss in Colorado. They’ve now allowed 10 goals in their last two games and 21 in their last five.

"It's tough," Flames coach Ryan Huska said after the loss. "We had a tough stretch in the third period there where we made a mistake with the puck and they got a lot of momentum from that point. We weren't able to stop the momentum.”

On the other hand, the Golden Knights have been scoring a lot of goals recently. They've scored 17 goals in their last three games — including a shootout win — and scored at least four goals in each of their last five wins.

The Flames are expected to start youngster Dustin Wolf (1-2-0, 3.04 GAA, .900 SV%) tonight on the back-to-back in Vegas after Daniel Vladar took the loss last night. Playing on the second half of a back-to-back has not been a friendly scenario for the Flames. They've lost 3-1 in Columbus, 4-1 in Ottawa, and 3-1 in Colorado.

The Golden Knights are huge favorites tonight, as expected, but their team total looks like the way to go. As mentioned, they’ve been scoring at least four goals in most of their games recently and the Flames are struggling to keep the puck out of the net.

My best bet: Golden Knights team total Over 3.5 (-110 via SIA)

Flames vs Golden Knights same-game parlay

Golden Knights team total Over 3.5

Under 7.5

Flames first period team total Under 0.5

The Vegas Golden Knights should be able to score at least four goals tonight against the Calgary Flames at home. We’re using our best bet to anchor our parlay.

After that, we’re going to go a bit contrarian with the Under 7.5.

The Flames had an unusually high-scoring game last night in Colorado with five goals after scoring a total of 10 in their previous four games. It'd surprise me if they're able to score more than two or three against a stingy Golden Knights team, especially in Vegas.

It's also worth noting that these teams met a few weeks ago in Calgary with the Flames taking home a 2-1 win in overtime.

Not only are the Flames one of the lowest-scoring teams overall, they’ve also scored 22 goals in 28 first periods. On the flip side, the Golden Knights have allowed 20 goals in their 29 first periods. In fact, Vegas has shut out a team in the first period in 13 of its 29 games.

The Golden Knights should be able to play their brand of hockey at home against the Flames.

Flames vs Golden Knights moneyline and Over/Under analysis

The Golden Knights odds are up to -190 as home favorites with the Calgary Flames odds at +155 as road underdogs.

The total is at an even 6 with the Over at -105 and the Under at -115.

I’m liking the Golden Knights and the Under tonight in this one, but would rather just take the Vegas team total as noted above.
