The Washington Capitals host the Philadelphia Flyers on Tuesday and will be looking to improve their standing in the Metropolitan Division. They have a wild card spot locked up but are just four points behind the Pittsburgh Penguins for third place.
The Flyers are a point out of the cellar in the Metro and are just playing out the string, looking forward to next season and beyond.

Flyers vs Capitals picks and predictions
Our side and total predictions are based upon our analysis of the line and total in this game. Our best bet is our favorite pick across all markets.
Puck line analysis
The Washington Capitals are humming perfectly in April, having won their last three games, all against playoff-bound teams. On Sunday, they topped the Boston Bruins at home, 4-2, less than 24 hours after their 6-3 road win against the Pittsburgh Penguins.
The Cap's recent success has been led by John Carlson who was named the NHL’s second star for the week ending April 10. The defenseman put up eight points in his team's last three contests and now sits with 63 (14 goals 49 assists) on the season.
The Flyers have struggled all season long and have lost six of their last eight games, getting outscored 34-23 in that span. Of those six losses, five of them came by at least two goals. To put it bluntly, this Philadelphia team is nowhere near the level of its opponent tonight.
Although the Capitals are 1-2 straight up against the Flyers this season, that doesn't make me feel guilty betting the home side to win big here. Washington is 15-6-1 against Metropolitan Division teams this season and has been playing some of its best hockey as of late.
Betting it at around -265 on the moneyline doesn't seem to make a lot of sense when the puck line holds much better value at almost even money. In their 15 wins against Metro teams this year, the Capitals have won 10 of those by two or more goals. Expect them to make it 11 tonight.
Prediction: Capitals -1.5 (-105 at FanDuel)
Over/Under analysis
Washington loves to put the puck in the net. It is 10th in the NHL in goals for, averaging 3.26 per game. Three players; Alex Ovechkin, Tom Wilson, and Evgeny Kuznetsov have 20 or more goals, with five other players in double digits.
The Over has done well for the Capitals, going 6-0 against opponents in the Metropolitan Division, and 9-1-1 against the Eastern Conference. In the team’s last 27 games, the Over has hit in 19 of them.
In the team’s last eight games, the Over has hit in seven with the Caps scoring at least four goals in five of those contests.
The Flyers lost a lot of their offense when they traded captain Claude Giroux to the Florida Panthers, thus signaling they had given up on the season and were rebuilding.
Philadelphia is 27th in the league at 2.60 goals per game with its leading goal scorer Cam Atkinson having 23, and no other player eclipsing the 20-goal mark. This team also doesn't have anyone in the NHL’s Top 50 in points.
The defense is also a mess, ranking 25th in goals allowed giving up 3.50 per game. It also has a save percentage of .905, ranking it 22nd in the league. The Capitals’ defense is a little better than the Flyers, but not much. They are tied for 20th in SV% at .906 with their GAA tied for 12th at 2.89.
With shaky defense and a potent Washington offense, I like the Over to hit here.
Prediction: Over 6 (-110 at Wynn)
Best bet
Capitals forward Alex Ovechkin has taken joy in torturing the Flyers over his illustrious career. Over 66 games versus this franchise, he's accumulated 71 points (42 goals 29 assists) and he'll look to continue that dominance tonight.
Ovechkin has scored a goal in his last three games and has at least one point in four straight. In his quest for his record-tying ninth 50-goal season, expect Ovi to be firing at will in tonight's contest.
This season, Ovechkin has 45 goals and 38 assists, with 15 goals coming on the man advantage alongside 13 assists. I guess now would be a great time to bring up that the Flyers have a penalty kill of only 76% which ranks them 23rd in the NHL.
The Flyers will be hard-pressed to find an answer for Ovechkin. Their defense is poor, and Ovechkin is motivated to fill the net against a mediocre netminder in Carter Hart who is expected to get the start. Ovi has 22 multi-point games this season and we're expecting him to make it 23 tonight.
Pick: Ovechkin Over 1.5 points (+160)
