The Philadelphia Flyers close out the road portion of their schedule with a matchup against the New York Rangers at Madison Square Garden on Thursday night. The Flyers have lost eight games in a row, including a 6-5 overtime loss in New York a few weeks ago.
That Rangers victory was New York’s seventh straight over the Flyers, who are all but out of the playoffs after their collapse.
Will the Rangers continue to dominate this rivalry? Read on for our Flyers vs. Rangers predictions and NHL picks on Thursday, April 11.

My analysis
The Philadelphia Flyers were sitting pretty for most of the season, and they felt pretty good after picking up points against tough opponents in the middle of March. However, they’ve run out of gas and have been outscored 42-18 during their eight-game losing streak.
Meanwhile, the New York Rangers are close to clinching the top spot in the Metropolitan Division and the entire NHL. They suffered a tough 4-2 loss on Long Island earlier this week but are still 8-2-0 in their last 10 games and 13-4-0 since March 9.
The Flyers have consistently been allowing at least four goals per game during their losing streak. They’ve also allowed 15 goals in their last two games — six in Columbus and nine in Montreal.
Philadelphia will be turning to Sam Ersson once again in net tonight. The backup-turned-starter is 21-18-7 with a 2.96 GAA and .886 SV% this season. It will be backup Jonathan Quick in net for the Rangers. The veteran netminder is 18-5-2 with a 2.56 GAA and .913 SV% this year.
The porous defense of the Flyers combined with the scoring ability of the Rangers should make for another high-scoring affair tonight.
It’s also worth mentioning that the Flyers haven’t had problems generating chances recently — they rank fifth in the league with 3.15 xGF/60 at 5-on-5 in the last 10 games — so they may be able to get a few past Quick. Mind you, the Flyers scored five times on Igor Shesterkin in the last meeting.
Flyers vs Rangers same-game parlay
There should be a lot of goals and a lot of shots on goal in tonight’s game between the Flyers and Rangers. The teams combined for 11 goals on 69 shots in their last matchup.
Flyers defenseman Cam York has been consistent in shooting the puck with two or more shots on goal in eight straight games, including seven at Madison Square Garden back on March 26.
The same goes for Rangers forward Mika Zibanejad. He’s had at least three shots on goal in five straight games and nine of his last 10 contests, including four against the Flyers last month.
