My analysis
Of the remaining teams left in the tournament, only the Vancouver Canucks (in a rockfight with the Nashville Predators) have scored fewer goals per game than either of these teams.
The Dallas Stars are second-worst in scoring, putting up just 2.33 goals per game, coming off their first scoreless effort in the postseason. That’s more than a goal less than what they did in the regular season when they ranked third in the league at 3.59. Who knows where they might be if their power play hasn’t been hitting at a 30.8% clip in this series?
Perhaps physicality is wearing the Stars down. The Vegas Golden Knights have outhit the Stars five times in six games. The deficit was by double digits in each, and by more than 20 on three occasions.
Vegas hasn’t been that great either, sporting an average of 2.5 goals per game, off of its pace of 3.21 during the regular season. Game 6 was the fourth straight time the Golden Knights were only able to muster two goals, and the first time over that stretch they were able to come away with the victory.
Targeting the total is the smart play here. The scoring has dried up in this series since Vegas’ 4-3 win in Game 1, as the Under has hit in four of the next five.
I don’t see a scoring binge coming in Game 7. Look for tight checking and a more conservative style with little space to operate, with no players wanting to make massive mistakes to put their team in a compromising position.
Golden Knights vs Stars same-game parlay (SGP)
In just his second start of the series, Adin Hill made 23 saves for the shutout — his first since November — to take Game 6 and force this finale. Hill has a short but stout playoff resume. In 18 appearances, he’s allowed two goals or less 10 times, and Vegas has yet to lose when that happens.
Jonathan Marchessault leads the Golden Knights in shots on goal in the series, with 20 shots through six games, and has crossed his shot total four times.
