The Seattle Kraken and Edmonton Oilers meet at Rogers Place on Tuesday night, marking the third of four regular-season meetings between these Pacific Division foes.

Home ice hasn’t done either of these teams any favors in the first two meetings. Edmonton routed Seattle at Climate Pledge Arena on December 30 by a 7-2 score, while the Kraken exacted a little revenge at Rogers Place on January 3, skating away with a 5-2 win.

The Kraken went a perfect 7-0 on a road trip from January 3-14, winning eight in a row before falling at home to Tampa Bay.

Can Seattle snap back into the win column, or will the hosts be too slick for the visitors? We’ll discuss in our NHL betting picks and predictions for the Kraken vs. Oilers on Tuesday, January 17.

Kraken vs Oilers best odds

Kraken vs Oilers picks and predictions

The Kraken saw their franchise-record eight-game winning streak snapped, making history by becoming the first team in the NHL to ever sweep a seven-game road trip.

Seattle started Philipp Grubauer against Tampa Bay, so it will turn to Martin Jones in the second end of the back-to-back. Jones was named the NHL’s First Star of the Week after going 3-0-0 with a pair of shutouts and a 1.67 GAA last week.

Jones (21-5-3, 2.76 GAA, .895 SV%, 3 SO) is projected to start, and he has had mixed results against the Oilers this season. He turned aside 30 of the 32 shots he faced in a 5-2 win in Edmonton but coughed up four goals on 27 shots in the 7-2 loss.

Stuart Skinner (12-10-2, 2.96 GAA, .914 SV%) is expected to get the nod. The new daddy was activated from the non-roster list Sunday after missing the previous three outings.

He was hammered for four goals on just 30 shots before getting pulled in the second period in the home game with the Kraken. Skinner sparkled in the game in Seattle, however, conceding just two goals on 38 shots in a victory.

The Kraken have been red-hot while the Oilers have struggled at home recently. As such, Seattle is the team to back as moderate underdogs in Northern Alberta.

Kraken vs Oilers moneyline analysis

The Kraken have rattled off victories in 16 of the past 21 games on the road, and their success away from the Pacific Northwest has been instrumental getting Seattle front and center in the race for the Pacific Division title — and a run at a postseason spot in the Western Conference.

The Kraken have had some really nice success against winning teams, going 5-1 in the past six tries, while going an impressive 7-3 in the past 10 games inside the Pacific Division.

For the Oilers, they have won just once in the past seven games on home ice, while going 2-5 in the past seven games against teams with a winning percentage over .600.

The road team has won each of the past three in this series, with the underdog going 3-1 in the previous four meetings. The winning team has registered at least four goals in each of the five meetings between these teams, and the winning side has needed at least five goals in four of those outings.

As such, you can expect plenty of offense — with no lead safe — so you’ll be sweating it out until zeroes are on the clock at Rogers Place.

Kraken vs Oilers Over/Under analysis

The Over has cashed in each of the five all-time meetings between these Pacific Division teams. In each of the outings, we have had at least seven total goals, and an average of 7.6 gpg to be exact.

The reason I like the Kraken on the moneyline more than the Over here, though, is Jones. He has been a brick wall. But the Under is also 7-3 in the past 10 when Seattle is playing on no rest, so that is a concern. I still like the Over on Tuesday, but go lightly, and I wouldn’t toss the total into a parlay.

The Over is 19-7-2 in the past 28 games overall for the Oilers, while going 6-0 in the past six inside the Pacific Division. The Over is 19-6-1 in the past 26 against Western Conference teams, too. However, the Under is 3-1-1 in the past five at home for the Oilers, so that should also give you some pause.

Seattle is third in the NHL with 3.8 goals per game on offense, and it ranked second-to-last on the penalty kill at 68.7%.

Edmonton is No. 4 in the NHL with 3.6 goals per game, while it has the No. 1 power-play unit at 31.5%. The kill is also dismal at 73.9%, ranking just No. 25. That is another good stat that supports an Over play.

Just go with a half-unit play at best on the Over, and avoid a parlay this time around.
