The Winnipeg Jets begin a three-game road trip Tuesday with a matchup against the Los Angeles Kings at Crypto.com Arena. Oddsmakers list Los Angeles as a -121 favorite, with the total set at 5.5 goals.

Winnipeg is hitting its stride as the season winds down, winning each of its past three games. This trend is likely to continue Tuesday, as I explain in my Jets vs. Kings predictions.

Read on for my NHL picks for Tuesday, April 1.

My Jets analysis
The Winnipeg Jets remain in control of the Central Division, and another win Tuesday would give them a firmer hold on the top spot as the Stanley Cup Playoffs approach. Winnipeg has been one of the NHL’s best defensive teams over the past two months, ranking fourth in expected goals against per 60 minutes (xGA/60).

Elite defensive play certainly helps goaltender Connor Hellebuyck, although he doesn’t need much help. The Vezina Trophy may already have Hellebuyck’s name on it for the second consecutive year, and there’s a legitimate chance he becomes the first goaltender to win the Hart Trophy since Carey Price in 2014-15.

Through 57 appearances this season, Hellebuyck is 43-10-3 with a .925 save percentage and a 2.01 goals-against average. That dominance is likely to continue against the Los Angeles Kings, who have struggled to generate high-danger scoring chances over the past two months.

Los Angeles ranks in the bottom half of the league in expected goals for per 60 minutes (xGF/60) during that span. Winnipeg not only holds the edge in goaltending and offense, but it also has a defensive advantage as it ranks higher in xGA/60.

The Kings have been strong at home, which is likely the main reason they’re favored. Still, given the statistical edge in nearly every major category, the Jets are the value play at plus-money.

Jets vs Kings odds analysis

Los Angeles opened as a -118 favorite and has since shifted to -121. The market may be overcorrecting for the Kings’ home-ice advantage, and the Jets remain worth a look, especially if the line continues to move against them.

The total opened at 5.5 and has remained unchanged. While the juice favors the under, it’s unlikely oddsmakers will move the number down to five.
