Oilers vs Jets Prediction, Picks & Odds for Tonight’s NHL Game

Zach Hyman returned to lineup with furious abandon, rattling off eight shots on goal. The Oilers winger might not reach that level against the Jets, but the Over on his 2.5 SOG prop is great value.

The marquee matchup on the ice features the Winnipeg Jets and Edmonton Oilers in a tape-measuring bout at Rogers Place on Thursday, Match 20.

Edmonton winger Zach Hyman is coming off a huge showing Tuesday, and he headlines my top Oilers vs. Jets predictions and NHL picks for tonight’s showdown.

My Oilers pick: Zach Hyman Over 2.5 shots (-130 at BET99)

My Oilers analysis

It was a statement return to the lineup from Edmonton Oilers winger Zach Hyman on Tuesday, as he recorded eight shots on 10 attempts during the 7-1 win over the Utah Hockey Club. It was the third consecutive home game Hyman recorded three or more shots, and there continues to be a sizable gap between his shots and attempts at Rogers Place compared to the highway.

Hyman has recorded 11.48 shots and 18.82 attempts per 60 minutes at home compared to just 7.77 and 13.88 per 60 on the road out of the holiday break.

Of course, Hyman lining up with superstar center Connor McDavid is a huge boost to his shot volume because the duo dominates 5-on-5 possession. They’ve combined for an elite 62.3 Corsi For percentage and 61.2% shot share at 5-on-5 this season, and Hyman drops to respective 49.5% and 54.4% marks when he isn’t skating with No. 97.

I also think we’re landing a sneaky number here because the Winnipeg Jets defense is being overvalued. While Winnipeg allows the fewest goals per game, the Jets aren’t an elite 5-on-5 possession driver with a 17th-ranked 49.9 CF%.

As a result, Hyman will have plenty of opportunities to record three or more shots for the fourth consecutive home game tonight.

Oilers vs Jets same-game parlay (SGP)

Oilers moneyline

Over 5.5

Zach Hyman Over 2.5 shots

Edmonton and Winnipeg are two of the highest-scoring teams in the league, with the Jets ranking third in goals per game (3.45) and the Oilers seventh (3.25). Additionally, Edmonton has an unsustainably high .961 team save percentage across its past three games, and Winnipeg just allowed six goals to the Vancouver Canucks last time out.

This is the first meeting between the two clubs since opening night in October when Winnipeg topped Edmonton 6-0, and I expect the Edmonton offense to fire on all cylinders for this rematch. The Oilers are also rolling on home ice with an active 17-5-1 record.
