The Carolina Hurricanes will be looking to snap a four-game losing skid Saturday afternoon against a Metro Division foe in the New York Rangers.
My Rangers vs. Hurricanes predictions expect the home side to get back on track, with pre-deadline acquisition Taylor Hall playing a key role in doing so.
Let’s take a closer look at my April 12 NHL picks.
Rangers vs Hurricanes prediction
My best bet: Taylor Hall Over 0.5 points (-115 at Bet365)
My analysis
Taylor Hall was a little slow to adjust after the trade to the Carolina Hurricanes but he’s really settled in of late. Hall has produced 12 points over the last 14 games, hitting the scoresheet in nine of them.
Hall has performed particularly well on home soil. He has recorded a point in seven of his last eight in Carolina, only failing to get the job done against the Winnipeg Jets.
The Jets sit atop the NHL standings, rank first in goals allowed, and started runaway Vezina favorite Connor Hellebuyck against the Hurricanes. It’s not exactly surprising or concerning that Hall failed to produce in that game.
Otherwise, his recent track record on home soil is exceptional. He’s taken care of business nightly, even against playoff-bound teams like Tampa Bay, Washington, and Montreal.
Hall’s home success should continue Saturday against the New York Rangers. They are all but officially eliminated from playoff contention and certainly look the part.
They’ve conceded at least three goals in eight of the last 10 and four or more on six different occasions. They’re not defending well at five-on-five and can’t keep the puck out of their net on the penalty kill.
Taylor Hall skates on Carolina’s 2nd scoring line alongside Jack Roslovic and Logan Stankoven. They haven’t spent a ton of time together but the early returns are strong.
Hall has also established himself as a focal point on the top power play unit, leading the team in goals and points on the man advantage over the last 15 games.
Hall is in the midst of a four game point drought but all four games came in road losses. Given his home success, and the advantageous matchup, this is a great spot to get back on track.
Rangers vs Hurricanes same-game parlay (SGP)
Seth Jarvis is a shooting machine on home soil. The pacey, in-your-face winger has averaged 3.1 shots per game in Carolina this season while clearing 2.5 shots at a remarkable 68% clip.
He has taken his volume up a notch, averaging 3.4 shots on 6.1 attempts spanning the past 10 home dates.
The Hurricanes rank first in five-on-five shot share this season, while the Rangers slot 20th.
This is a matchup in which the Hurricanes should dominate the run of play, opening the door for plenty of shooting opportunities for a guy like Jarvis.
As for a side, I really like the Hurricanes. They’ve dropped four consecutive games, and head coach Rod Brind’Amour will push them to put their best foot forward and find their game again before the playoffs begin.
What better place to do that than in their own building?
Carolina owns a sparkling 30-8-1 record on home soil this season and should be able to skate a deflated New York team into the ground.
