Penguins vs Devils Odds, Picks, and Predictions Tonight: Devils Stay Hot

The Devils leapt out the starting gate this season, but eventually hit a wall. However, they've played some inspired hockey on the road recently, and they return home to face a Penguins team still somewhat on the mend.

The New Jersey Devils have returned home after their successful five-game road trip, where they went 4-0-1. They have now won five out of their last six games.

Tristan Jarry made his return to the lineup for the Pittsburgh Penguins on Friday night, and he looked outstanding, making 44 saves and helping his team win 4-1 against the Ottawa Senators.

The Devils have been playing some great hockey as of late, and I’m sure they will be fired up to be back on home ice for the first time since January 7th.

Penguins vs Devils best odds

Penguins vs Devils picks and predictions

The Devils have gotten back to the game they were playing earlier this season, as they've gone 7-1-2 in their last 10 outings. Jack Hughes continues to put the team on his back, as he comes into this game riding a four-game point streak, tallying three goals and four assists in that span.

The Penguins looked strong in their most recent contest, but they haven’t been playing very well on the road as of late. They are 1-6 in their last seven road games, and they have a very tough test ahead of them today.

New Jersey has been good on both ends of the ice during this stretch, plus their goaltenders – Vitek Vanecek and Mackenzie Blackwood – have been at their best. They haven’t announced which guy is starting yet, but either is a very strong choice.

The Devils have been the more consistent team of these two lately, and their offense is buzzing thanks to Hughes, Jesper Bratt and Nico Hischier

The Penguins will still be missing a key member of their lineup in Kris Letang, and Tristan Jarry still isn’t fully back into the swing of things. I like the Devils in this spot at home, and I think they should get the win.

My best bet: Devils moneyline (-145 at BetMGM)

Penguins vs Devils moneyline analysis

The Devils have been one of the best teams in the league at 5-on-5, averaging 3.04 goals per 60 minutes, and skating to a 3.09 xGF/60. Not only are they successful at even strength, but they also generate a ton of high-danger opportunities, piling up pressure on their opponent. The Penguins haven’t been as successful in 5-on-5 play, as they are scoring 2.58 goals per contest at even strength.

This is going to be Jarry’s third start in the month of January, and he hasn’t faced offensive groups that are as dynamic as the Devils, so there is certainly a strong chance that he struggles in today’s game. Pittsburgh isn’t that great defensively on the road, allowing 3.22 goals per game as the away team.

Not only are the Devils playing more consistently right now, but they have been the better team all season. Of course the Penguins have a ton of offensive talent, but I don’t think they play with as much pace as New Jersey.

The favorite has gone 8-2 in the last 10 meetings between these two teams, and I like the Devils as the favorite today.

Penguins vs Devils Over/Under analysis

Overs in Devils games have been absolute money as of late, hitting in seven straight overall.

These are two very strong offensive teams, as the Devils are averaging 3.51 goals per game, while the Penguins are scoring 3.24 goals each contest. There is so much offensive talent in this game. Hughes, Bratt and Hischier for New Jersey, who are the young, up-and-coming studs, going up against the guys who have been doing it for years for Pittsburgh in Sidney Crosby, Evgeni Malkin and Jake Guentzel

The Devils were able to put up four goals in the first meeting between these two teams this season, and they should be able to do so once again. The Penguins' offense has been clicking recently, scoring 12 goals in their last three games, so they should see some success as well today.

I like this Over.
