We had a strong day with our NHL player props yesterday, finishing one Jordan Kyrou shot shy of a 3-0 card.
With nearly half the league in action Sunday, there is plenty of value on the board again. Let’s take a closer look at a few of my favorite NHL picks for March 23 as I look to put together another profitable card.
NHL player prop bets today
Sam Reinhart Over 2.5 shots (-125 at bet365)
Matvei Michkov Over 2.5 shotds (-125 at DraftKings)
Taylor Hall Over 0.5 points (-120 at DraftKings)
Best NHL player prop bets for March 23
Sam Reinhart Over 2.5 shots (-125 at bet365)
Sam Reinhart generates a healthy shot volume nightly. He's registered at least three shots in seven of his last 10 games, with two exceptions coming against teams in playoff position.
He's taken on an even more prominent shooting role since Matthew Tkachuk suffered an injury at the 4 Nations tournament.
Reinhart has cleared in five of six home games since Tkachuk went down, generating 43 attempts. He's averaged 7.1 attempts in that span while recording at least five every game.
That’s a sweet spot for Reinhart, who has averaged 3.4 shots and cleared 2.5 in 78% of his games this season when attempting five shots or more.
The Penguins rank dead last in shot suppression over the last 10 games and have conceded more shots to wingers than anybody.
Matvei Michkov Over 2.5 shots (-125 at DraftKings)
Matvei Michkov has shot the puck very efficiently of late. He's averaged more than 19 shot attempts per 60 minutes over the last 20 games, slotting him 30th among all NHL forwards.
Leon Draisaitl, Matt Boldy, Jordan Kyrou, and Adrian Kempe are just a few of the many notables who’ve generated shots at a lesser rate than Michkov in that span.
Michkov has cleared 2.5 shots in five of his last 10 games, which doesn’t sound all that impressive. However, each of his misses came against playoff teams — including the two duking it out for the Presidents’ Trophy.
He should benefit greatly from a big step down in competition against the Blackhawks. They rank dead last in shot share over the last 10 games, while only three teams have allowed more shots to wingers.
Michkov should have plenty of opportunities to fire away.
Taylor Hall Over 0.5 points (-120 at DraftKings)
Taylor Hall is playing some of his best hockey of the season with points in five of his last seven games, missing only against the Jets and Kings.
The Jets lead the NHL in wins, while the Kings give up very little offensively — especially when playing on home soil. Those are two of the worst possible matchups you could ask for.
Even still, he’s produced six points over his last seven games for the Hurricanes. He’s driving play on the second line and has also claimed a spot on the top power play alongside the team’s best weapons.
He’s playing a prominent role and will have ample opportunity to exploit a Ducks team not defending well, ranking 30th in chances allowed over the last 10 games.
