It's a Friday-night four-pack on the ice tonight and one with a lot of prop potential.
There are individual stacks, line stacks, and revenge angles to hunt and I'm looking at all three angles to turn a profit betting these NHL player props.
Find out why my NHL picks for Friday, November 8 are backing one of the hottest goalscorers in the league, a pair of Buds and a pair of Kraken in a revenge spot.
NHL prop picks and best bets for November 8
- McMichael o0.5 points (-118 at BetMGM)
- Marner o0.5 assists + Knies o0.5 points (+196 at DraftKings)
- Stephenson + Schwartz o0.5 points each (+405 at Draftkings)
Picks made on 11-8 at 12:30 p.m. ET.
Today’s NHL prop picks and best bets
Prop bet #1: Connor McMichael Over 0.5 points
Connor McMichael has become my favorite skater as books have been too slow to adjust his props. His Over 2.5 shots is a similar price and also worth a look in what is a great matchup vs. the Pittsburgh Penguins who give up a lot of shots and ton of goals.
The Pens are coming off a 5-1 loss last night and will be playing their third game in four nights. They have the third-highest GAA in hockey and face the best 5-on-5 offense in the East. McMichael has five goals and 27 SOG over his last five games and is driving this offense. The power play could also get going as it has been one of the worst in hockey and positive regression is likely.
The Washington Capitals will face goalie Joel Blomqvist who has a 4.09 GAA with a .906 SV% over his last starts where he has seen a lot of pucks -- 127 shots in total. The Caps are still being undervalued as a team and McMichael is a likeness of that same disrespect in the market. It's going to be a big game for the Washington offense that's scoring 4.63 goals per game at home and is 7-1 SU there.
Prop bet #2: Matthew Knies Over 0.5 points + Mitch Marner Over 0.5 assists
With Auston Matthews likely out again, the top line and PP pairing of Matthew Knies and Mitch Marner will shoulder the offensive load tonight vs. the Detroit Red Wings and their terrible defensive team. Detroit's penalty kill ranks 31st in hockey, the Wings are on the second game of a traveling back-to-back, they have been outshot in nine straight games by an average of 11 shots per game, and rank in the bottom 10 in most expected goals metrics.
It might seem like a lot to get a point and an assist, but Marner has a 2:14 G:A ratio with 14 helpers over 14 games while Knies is on a heater and blooming into a legit threat with six goals over his last nine games. The Toronto Maple Leafs power play also got going without Matthews in the lineup and could find success vs. Detroit who has given up three power-play goals in a single game twice over the last nine games.
Prop bet #3: Chandler Stephenson + Jaden Schwartz Over 0.5 points
This is about as big as you can get for a two-player point stack. The pair play on the second line together and on the second power-play unit, but the Seattle Kraken split up the PP time pretty evenly between the two units. This play came through in the last game vs. Colorado at +400 and has a great chance tonight in what might be a high-scoring game.
Vegas could be rolling with Akira Schmid in net tonight which is a boost to the Seattle offense. The recently called-up goalie has been bad in the minors with a .885 SV% and a 1-5 SU record. No.1 goalie Adin Hill has yet to play three straight games and could get the night off with Carolina on deck for Monday.
The Seattle offense has not been great of late, but this is a tough price to pass up as Chandler Stephenson is a former Golden Knight and this will be his first game against his former team that he spent over four seasons with. The duo has also been seeing a ton of ice time so 20+ minutes is very probable again tonight.
