It’s Monday and the NHL is giving us a three-pack of games.
Unders have been cashing at a 66% clip over the last week but that's a very tough rate to continue. Despite that, I’m mixing up some stacks with a Hart-sized Under in the late game.
These are my three favorite NHL player props for Monday, January 13.
NHL prop picks and best bets for January 13
- Tippett o0.5 points (+110 at FanDuel)
- Coleman + Backlund o0.5 points (+210 at bet365)
- McDavid u1.5 points (-120 at bet365)

Today’s NHL prop picks and best bets
Prop bet #1: Owen Tippett Over 0.5 points
The Philadelphia Flyers/Florida Panthers game has a total of 6 (+100 to the Over) with Sam Ersson and Spencer Knight starting. Ersson is coming off a shutout but is also playing his third game in five nights while recently returning from an injury. Knight has a .864 save percentage since December 1 (six games) and despite Unders hitting at 66% over the last seven days, I like two-way scoring here.
The Panthers’ lines have not changed much so there isn't any value on their point props, but Owen Tippett is playing on the top line and power play and coming off a two-point, five-shot game.
Tippett is +110 for a point at FanDuel and I'd play it to -105. He has 10 points over his last 12 games and is getting decent minutes at the expense of other top-six skaters — looking at you Matvei Michkov.
The entire Flyers’ top line correlates with Morgan Frost centering it with Travis Konecny and playing on the first power-play unit. That line is +425 for a point each at home vs. the Florida backup.
Prop bet #2: Blake Coleman + Mikael Backlund Over 0.5 points each
The Calgary Flames have a great matchup tonight vs. Petr Mrazek, who has won just once over his last nine games with a 4.32 GAA and a .858 SV%. Calgary did play yesterday at home in a 2-1 win over the Kings.
It’s not my favorite offense to stack but this matchup is great and they hung six goals on the Chicago Blackhawks eight games ago in a 6-4 win. There were also 68 minutes in penalties in that game and eight PP opportunities which might boil over into tonight.
The only stack on the Flames with the currently available markets is Mikael Backlund and Blake Coleman at +210. The Nazem Kadri and Jonathan Huberdeau stack is good but they don't play together on the power play and the price is tough to swallow at +125.
In that December meeting, it was the Backlund-Coleman-Matt Coronato line that did a lot of the offensive lifting with three goals and two assists. The trio is not a true correlation with Coronato playing on the first power play, but the triple stack is +425 for you aggressive stackers. I’m going to play the duo for +210 on a full unit.
Prop bet #3: Connor McDavid Under 1.5 points
The Los Angeles Kings will play the third game of a five-game road trip tonight after a 2-1 loss to the Flames last night.
Despite playing through some difficult situations, the Kings are 2-1 straight up in their last three games but have failed to score more than three goals in any of those matches. They are playing low-scoring games and are 3-7 O/U over the last 10. They are also one of the best Under teams in hockey at 13-24-3 O/U.
The Edmonton Oilers are a heavy -210 ML favorite, which I want no part of as the Kings have still been one of the best teams in hockey over the last 30 days (7-2-2).
It will likely be Darcy Kuemper in net for the road team as he sat out last night’s defeat. He has been elite of late, going 8-0-2 over his last 10 with a 1.68 GAA and a .937 SV%. He has allowed one goal or fewer in six of those games. With the price of the Edmonton ML coupled with the defensive matchup, this is a great spot for Oilers Unders.
The team total Under 3.5 at -130 is a decent look but I think I’ll hit Connor McDavid Under 1.5 points at -120 instead. I took a long look at plus-money Unders on Ryan Nugent-Hopkins and Zach Hyman, but McDavid’s production has slowed with 2+ points in just six of his last 15 games, including hitting the Under 1.5 in four of his last five.
Even more impressive about McDavid’s lack of production is Edmonton has been leading the league in scoring since December 10. Edmonton is getting by without McDavid needing three points a night.
This is already a 5.5 total with a live dog and the Oilers are getting scoring from places other than McDavid.
