Today’s NHL prop picks and best bets

Prop bet #1: Roope Hintz anytime goalscorer

+190 at bet365

The Dallas Stars continue their Canadian swing on Sunday evening when they face the Ottawa Senators. I’m looking to fade goaltender Anton Forsberg, who will guard the cage for Ottawa in this matchup.

Forsberg is 4-8-1 through 14 starts this season with a .883 SV%. In his defense, he plays behind a blue line that ranks in the bottom half of the league in xGA/60.

That is good news for Dallas forward Roope Hintz, who has been the team’s best goal scorer this season. He leads the Stars with 19 tallies and is looking for further success against the Sens.

These two teams just squared off 10 days ago, and Hintz scored twice in that meeting.

Prop bet #2: Jason Robertson anytime goalscorer

+210 at bet365

My thinking here is simple: I am confident at least one of Hintz and Jason Robertson scores in this game, which guarantees a profit. If both score, all the better.

They skate together on the first power play unit, making them well-positioned to exploit Ottawa’s weak penalty kill. The Senators rank 22nd in penalty minutes taken per game and 19th in penalty kill percentage.

While Hintz leads the team in power-play goals, Robertson is tied for second. At least one of Hintz or Robertson has scored in eight of Dallas’ past 12 games.

Prop bet #3: Tomas Hertl Over 0.5 power play points

+450 at bet365

Sticking with the theme of fading poor special teams, I'm going to look at Tomas Hertl to record a power play point in tonight’s nightcap against the Minnesota Wild. This season, Minnesota ranks 29th in penalty kill percentage.

Meanwhile, nearly half of Hertl’s points this year have come on the man-advantage.

Furthermore, goaltender Filip Gustavsson is tending twine for the Wild. He’s struggled mightily over the past week, allowing four or more goals in each of his past two starts. Gustavsson has posted a .778 SV% and 7.10 GAA over that stretch.
