Sunday features a modest three-game NHL slate, but there are still plenty of player props to choose from.
I’ve compiled my three best NHL player props for Sunday. As always, monitor the odds and available pricing, as the player prop market is constantly changing.
Here are my free NHL picks in the player prop market for January 19.
NHL prop picks and best bets for January 19
- Matt Duchene 1+ goals (+185 at BetRivers)
- Jason Robertson 1+ goals (+160 at BetRivers)
- Artemi Panarin Over 0.5 PPP (+180 at bet365)
Today’s NHL prop picks and best bets
Matt Duchene 1+ goals (+185 at BetRivers)
Sunday’s nightcap features the Dallas Stars hosting the Detroit Red Wings. The Stars have a banged-up forward group, but Matt Duchene has kept the scoring alive.
Duchene has recorded a goal in two of the past three games and now leads the team in points. This success is likely to continue against Detroit, a team he has scored three goals against over the past five meetings.
The Red Wings have struggled in the defensive zone this season, ranking 24th in xGA/60. This trend of poor defensive play is not a new occurrence, which is why goaltender Alex Lyon surrendered five goals in the last meeting against Dallas.
Jason Robertson 1+ goals (+160 at BetRivers)
My thinking here is simple: I am confident that either Duchene or Jason Robertson will score in this game, which guarantees a profit. If both score, all the better.
They skate together on the first power play unit, making them well-positioned to exploit Detroit’s weak penalty kill. The Red Wings rank second-to-last in penalty kill percentage. While Duchene leads the team in power play goals, Robertson is tied for second.
Robertson also scored in that aforementioned game where Lyon allowed five goals, and has five goals in his last seven overall.
Artemi Panarin Over 0.5 power play points (+180 at bet365)
Sticking with this theme of fading poor special teams, we are going to look at New York Rangers forward Artemi Panarin to record a power play point in tonight’s game against the Montreal Canadiens. This season, Montreal ranks 27th in penalty minutes taken per game.
Going on the kill typically leads to problems against Panarin, who leads the first power play unit. He has recorded 15 power play points this year, and this success is likely to continue against Montreal.
Panarin has recorded seven power play points over his past six games against the Habs. Additionally, goaltender Jakub Dobes is slated to guard the cage for Montreal, and while he has excelled with a .963 SV% through his first four starts, he is due for regression.
