The New York Rangers are big favorites on the NHL odds board as they go for the sweep against the Washington Capitals tonight. My Rangers vs. Capitals predictions expect one New York forward to put his best foot forward in the effort.

The Blueshirts haven’t exactly played great hockey in this series, but they’ve been better than the Caps, and that’s all you need in the playoffs. Washington led for less than three minutes in Game 2 and just 34 seconds in Game 3 after opening the scoring.

Can New York close things out with a sweep? Read on for our NHL picks for April 28.

My analysis

The Washington Capitals split their regular-season series against the New York Rangers but now find themselves in a 3-0 deficit in the Stanley Cup Playoffs.

The Caps have been outscored 11-5 through three games, with Game 2 finishing as the only contest decided by one goal. Artemi Panarin led the way for the Rangers in the regular season with 120 points, but four other players also chipped in with 70+ points.

One of those players is Mika Zibanejad. He turned it on toward the end of the regular season with 18 points in his final 19 games, and that’s continued into the postseason. The Swedish centre has recorded an assist in every game thus far, including two key apples in New York’s Game 3 win.

Zibanejad finished the regular season on a six-game point streak with at least one assist in 10 of his final 13 games. The Rangers star continued that into the postseason and there’s no reason to expect that to stop on Sunday night in D.C.

Rangers vs Capitals same-game parlay (SGP)

Mika Zibanejad Over 0.5 assists

Chris Kreider Over 0.5 goals

Rangers -1.5

Zibanejad skates on the first line and top power-play unit alongside winger Chris Kreider. The two connected on a goal in both Games 1 and 3 and could easily do so again in Game 4.

We’re also taking the Rangers to cover the puck line on Sunday. Even without playing at its true potential, New York has been far and away the better team and continues to be lethal on the power play (3-for-12 so far on the PP).
