USA vs Canada prop picks and best bets
Prop 1: USA to win with a shutout (+1100 at DraftKings)
USA winning with a shutout is certainly a long shot at 11/1, but it's worth considering with Connor Hellebuyck in the net. He is widely regarded as the best goaltender in the world and is on track to win the Vezina Trophy for the second consecutive season.
Through 43 starts this season, Hellebuyck is 34-7-2 with a .925 SV% and 2.06 GAA. He boasts six shutouts over that stretch.
Hellebuyck started off the 4 Nations in great form, nearly shutting out Finland with 20 saves on 21 shots for a .952 SV%. Canada certainly possesses the firepower to score on him, but Hellebuyck is capable of shutting them down if the United States stays out of the penalty box.
Prop 2: Jack Eichel 1+ assists (-104 at FanDuel)
Jack Eichel is the best player on this team. He typically flies under the radar when discussing who the best player in the NHL is, but Eichel deserves to be in the conversation as someone who is in the tier right below McDavid, Draisaitl, and MacKinnon.
Eichel has been terrific for the Vegas Golden Knights, posting 50 assists through 55 games. This success carried into the United States’ opening game against Finland, in which Eichel recorded two assists.
He skates as the first-line center and as the primary facilitator on the first power play unit, and if the United States wins this game, I find it hard to believe that Eichel won’t record an assist in the process.
Prop 3: Matthew Tkachuk any time goalscorer (+300 at FanDuel)
The Tkachuk brothers flank Eichel on the first line, but we're focusing on Matthew Tkachuk to find the back of the net. Matthew recorded two goals in the opening game against Finland, further establishing himself as one of the strongest big-game players in the world.
He scored six goals in the NHL playoffs last year en route to hoisting the Stanley Cup, and he is clearly unafraid of big moments.
Matthew led the United States with eight shots on goal against Finland, so the chances will be there against Canada to make 3/1 worth a play. Matthew can score in various ways, whether it be net front, at 5-on-5, or on the power play.
