Wild vs Rangers Odds, Picks, and Predictions Tonight: New Year Goals

The Rangers and Wild have both been piling up the goals lately — with both power plays clicking and one side fielding suspect goaltending, our NHL picks see the trend continuing tonight.

The New York Rangers and Minnesota Wild are both coming off of tough losses in their most recent games. The Rangers blew a 3-1 lead in the third period against the New Jersey Devils before falling 4-3 in overtime and the Minnesota Wild were shutout at home against the St. Louis Blues. That being said, they have both had some good stretches as of late, the Rangers are 6-2-2 in their last 10 games and the Wild are 6-3-1 in theirs.

The Rangers and Wild have had very similar seasons — they haven’t been unbelievable, but they are certainly knocking on the door of being among the top teams in the league.

We saw a high-scoring affair when they clashed in Minnesota back in October and I am expecting the same with my NHL picks and predictions for Rangers vs. Wild on Tuesday, January 10.

Wild vs Rangers best odds

Wild vs Rangers picks and predictions

The Wild’s goaltending has not been very trustworthy this season — not that Marc Andre Fleury and Filip Gustavsson have been bad, but the consistency hasn’t really been there. When the Rangers played Minnesota back in October, they put seven goals on 35 shots on Fleury and completely embarrassed the Wild in front of their home crowd.

Despite being shut out in their most recent game, the Wild have actually been buzzing lately, scoring 15 goals in their last four games combined. The Rangers’ offensive production hasn’t looked too shabby either, tallying 17 goals in their last four games themselves.

Another thing that the Rangers and Wild have in common is their power play, as they’re essentially converting at the same rate this season: the Wild at 23.8% and the Rangers at 23.7%. The Wild are 30% in their last three games on the man advantage and the Rangers are 40% in theirs, so both units have been very productive as of late.

I’m aware that Igor Shesterkin is one of the best goalies in the NHL, but even he occasionally has an off night. I have a feeling that we will see a ton of goals in this one, I like the Over.

My best bet: Over 6 -105 (Odds at BetMGM)

Wild vs Rangers moneyline analysis

I think where we stand right now, the Rangers aren’t a MUCH better team than the Wild, but they certainly have an edge in goal and offensively. On another note, the points mean more to New York right now as they are currently sitting in the first Wild Card spot in the Eastern Conference, whereas the Wild are in third place in the Central division.

Shesterkin is certainly the better goalie in the matchup no matter who starts in goal for Minnesota. Fleury actually happens to be questionable for this game, so there is a strong feeling that Gustavsson will in fact be the starter.

The Rangers have won three out of their last four games, and to be honest, they probably should’ve won their most recent contest, but they saw a two-goal lead evaporate in the third period.

If you’ve watched both teams play as of late, unbiasedly, the Rangers appear to be the overall better team, and they should win this one at home.

Wild vs Rangers Over/Under analysis

With the way both teams have been scoring as of late, it’s hard to think that this will be a low-scoring game.

The Rangers have played an excellent stretch of hockey as of late and they have been getting secondary scoring throughout their lineup. New York has no issues generating offense and should have a good amount of chances tonight. The Wild don’t have as much depth as the Rangers do offensively, but they’re currently averaging 3.15 goals per game.

Shesterkin against Gustavsson is a solid goalie matchup, but with the power plays and offensive production clicking the way it is, I have to go with the Over here.
