My analysis
Both Arsenal and Chelsea come into this game on the back of disappointing cup exits. Chelsea lost in the FA Cup semifinal at Wembley to Man City, a game which informs the best bet for this game. Meanwhile, Arsenal lost last week to Bayern Munich to get dumped from the Champions League before bouncing back with a 2-0 away win over Wolves.
That Chelsea performance against Man City is the reason that we’re backing Arsenal and win and Both teams not to score at odds of +200. Chelsea played well for the majority of the game, with Cole Palmer pulling strings. But yet again, they failed to get a result thanks to their poor striking options.
They had 10 shots and actually had more on target than City, but they aren’t clinical enough in front of goal, in particular Nicolas Jackson. He works hard and has all the physical attributes to be a good striker but he lacks the composure to score, as shown by just 10 goals all season despite playing 28 goals up front for the team who have the sixth most shots in the Premier League. When it isn’t Palmer shooting they just aren’t dangerous at all, with Palmer accounting for a third of their goals.
They face an Arsenal team who have the best defensive record in the Premier League by a margin, conceding just 26 goals in 33 games, six fewer than their nearest opposition. It’s a strong defensive unit and despite struggling to be at their best in recent weeks they have the talent to get back-to-back clean sheets here.
We’re also likely to see Arsenal win. They top the Premier League for a reason and are by far the better team of the two. They come into this with three wins in their last four in the league, with the one defeat against an inspired Aston Villa.
Arsenal are now fighting in just one competition and they can throw their entire weight behind winning the Premier League. They got redemption at the weekend following that Bayern Munich defeat and will be back to basics, playing defensively-sound soccer here, getting the three points and keeping a blunt Chelsea team from scoring.
