EPL predictions for Aston Villa vs Manchester United
My best bet:
Aston Villa to win (+125 at Betano)
My analysis
Earlier in the week we saw Aston Villa record a historic 1-0 win over European giants Bayern Munich following a sensational strike from in-form Jhon Duran.
That was followed by Man Utd blowing a two-goal lead against Porto before Harry Maguire rescued a point for the Red Devils with the game finishing 3-3. These are clubs at two very different areas of their development and it’s the reason why I'm backing Aston Villa to pick up the three points.
Villa has just one defeat in EPL action this season and that was to Arsenal — one of the best teams in the competition fighting for a title. So far, it’s been a great campaign for Emery’s team, and they entered the weekend in fifth and only two points between Liverpool at the top of the table.
The same can’t be said for Manchester United, with manager Erik ten Hag firmly on the hot seat. The club have lost half of their six Premier League games and picked up just seven points, below the likes of Bournemouth and Nottingham Forest. It simply isn’t good enough given their roster, and it’s concerning Ten Hag still hasn’t got the team playing any sort of recognizable style.
United have scored just five goals and are one of just four clubs to be averaging less than a goal per game. To put it in context, even the Wolves, who came into the weekend bottom on one point, have scored more goals.
That level of attacking impotency wouldn’t be so concerning if they were keeping clean sheets every week, but they’re not. They give up too many chances and don’t create enough good ones of their own.
Villa are the better team right now and have scored over double the amount of goals as Man Utd. They play on the front foot and go out to win games, something you can’t really say about Ten Hag’s squad. Villa have the form, the players, and the confidence on their side and should come out on top in Sunday’s clash.

It’s not clear whether Duran will even start the game, but he’s been so effective in his role as ‘super sub’ in recent weeks it doesn’t matter. He comes in full of confidence after that world-class winner against Bayern Munich, and he's averaging a goal every 43 minutes at Villa Park this season.
United’s biggest issue this year has been goals, but it’s not for the lack of trying. They’ve averaged a huge 13.2 shots per game, and if they’re chasing a Villa lead, it’s only going to increase the volume of shots Man U take.
