The two teams meet in Premier League action with both clubs looking to snap their winless streaks. I believe Bournemouth will waste no time taking a big step in that direction.

My analysis
The Premier League’s two South Coast teams meet on Monday with visitors Southampton looking to grab their first win since promotion back to the top division. Meanwhile, Bournemouth are desperate to halt the slide after back-to-back defeats.
Both clubs are only five games into the new Premier League season, so the sample size on both teams is still small. However, Bournemouth came into the weekend 13th in the table while Southampton are in the relegation zone.
Southampton arguably should have been out of the relegation zone with a win over Ipswich, but despite being the better team, they could only manage a draw and not turn their dominance into the three points that they desperately needed. They’ve given up nine goals, which clearly isn’t good, but their major issue has been at the other end.
They’ve found the back of the net just twice in five games, the lowest amount in the Premier League. Survival will be hard unless they change that.
Bournemouth may be firmly mid-table but they’ve looked pretty good at times with Andoni Iraola’s team losing just twice this season. Given they faced both Chelsea and Liverpool, it makes those defeats slightly more acceptable.
That said, they’ve won just once this season and should have done better. The quality they have displayed is one of the reasons behind Monday’s best bet of Bournemouth to be winning at halftime.
In addition to the quality that Bournemouth have, far more than Southampton, we also need to consider how both teams set up, and in particular the first half of each game.
Southampton have scored just one first half goal so far this season and crucially have been losing at the interval in both away games so far. They struggle to get a foothold in games away from St. Mary’s Stadium and have given up a first-half goal in both road games so far.
Bournemouth have the home crowd behind them and have played with a swagger at times, with a home performance against a good Newcastle team showing just how impressive they can be. If they play like that here, against a Southampton team who are still Championship standard, then they’ll be winning at the interval.

In addition to my best bet for the game, I’m going to go for Under 3.5. It’s a shock that the total goals line for the game sits at 3.5 anyway, given that Southampton have scored just twice all season. Bournemouth are the better side but four of their six games this season, one of which was in the EFL Cup, have had two or fewer goals.

They’ve found themselves in dangerous positions this season but are lacking the quality to score. They have just two goals to their name and don’t have the ability to maximize their opportunities when they get into threatening areas of the pitch.
