The Premier League weekend starts early with Brighton and Chelsea clashing at the Amex Stadium on Friday.

Brighton got the win when the teams met in the FA Cup this past weekend but with a full-strength team, our Brighton vs Chelsea predictions have the roles reversing and Chelsea getting the win.

My analysis
The Premier League returns this weekend under the floodlights at the AmEx Stadium with Brighton hosting Chelsea.

Chelsea sit fourth in the Premier League and are now 13 points off top, as their title challenge has fallen away. They’re now in a dogfight with third-place Nottingham Forest, as well as Man City, Newcastle, and Bournemouth to finish in the top four and seal a Champions League berth for next season. Meanwhile, Brighton sit 10th, firmly in midtable and without any real European aspirations, while also being safe from the drop.

When it comes to predicting this game we have a very recent meeting to consider, with these two teams meeting just six days earlier, at this same stadium, in the FA Cup.

Brighton won that game, overturning a 1-0 hole to win 2-1. While this needs to be considered, we also need to factor in that Chelsea’s team saw more rotation, with Enzo Fernandez, Noni Madueke, and Levi Colwill among the regulars who didn’t start. However, it wasn’t a hugely weak team either.

Brighton had high hopes this year, but while their performances have been impressive at times, they’ve failed to achieve consistency. They’ve won just two of their past 12 Premier League games; however, half of those games have ended in draws, with just four defeats. That said, take out their cup heroics. Their last two Premier League games have seen them lose at home to Everton and get destroyed 7-0 by Nottingham Forest.

With Chelsea bringing back some of their better players, including Enzo Fernandez, who is so integral to their midfield’s balance, they’ll do a far better job at keeping possession and finding holes in the Brighton backline. He’s a huge upgrade on Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, while Madueke offers far more going forward than the likes of Jadon Sancho or Pedro Neto. Their defense will also instantly look stronger with Colwill coming in for Trevor Chalobah, who is a good Premier League player but not a top star.

Chelsea are the fifth-highest-scoring team in the country and have a host of attacking talents who’ll cause Brighton issues. They’ve scored in five straight Premier League games, scoring multiple games in all but one of their past four games, and can be relied upon to terrify a Brighton defeat who’ve kept just two clean sheets in the league since mid-October.

Brighton vs Chelsea same-game parlay (SGP)

Chelsea moneyline

Over 2.5

Cole Palmer to score

In addition to our best bet, we are adding the Over 2.5. We’ve seen Over 2.5 goals land in seven of the past eight meetings between these teams in all competitions, including that 2-1 win for Brighton in the FA Cup this past weekend. There are plenty of goalscorers available for both teams and we’ve also seen Over 2.5 goals scored in Chelsea’s past four in the Premier League.

For the final leg of this SGP, we’re taking Chelsea’s star player Cole Palmer to get his name on the scoresheet. Mohamed Salah might be the best player in the Premier League right now but Palmer isn’t far behind. The 22-year-old has had another strong season for Chelsea and is continuing to be integral to their attack. He’s scored 14 goals in the Premier League, and is a consistent goal threat, averaging 3.5 shots per game. He’s not scored in four games, his longest drought of the season, and is due for positive regression soon.

  • Chelsea have won three of their past six in all competitions.
  • That win was Brighton’s only win in the past six meetings between the teams, with Chelsea winning the other five.
  • 54.5% of Brighton’s EPL games at home have had Over 2.5 goals but it’s only landed once in their past five at home.
