Premier League predictions for Chelsea vs Tottenham

My best bet: Chelsea moneyline + both teams to score (+160 at TonyBet)

My analysis
Chelsea enter this midweek slate of games in fourth spot but have fallen off recently with just two wins in their past five Premier League games.

Spurs come into the week a full 10 spots below Chelsea in the table and without a win in their past three. While Chelsea faded after a promising start to the season, it feels like Tottenham have never really got going. There are plenty of reasons for that, they’ve been hit by a truly horrific run of injuries, but there’s also negligence from their manager Ange Postecoglou, who is far too committed to his attacking principles, something that has cost them a lot of points across the season. With Spurs always being wide open, but good in attack, we’re going to back Chelsea to win and both teams to score, available at attractive odds.

Despite Chelsea failing to keep up their excellent start to this season, they’re still performing at a high level and will welcome Cole Palmer back from injury this week. They’ve impressed at Stamford Bridge with just two defeats at home in the Premier League all campaign and they’ve managed to score in every game since their opening home game defeat to Man City.

There’s been an upturn in Spurs fortunes in recent weeks since they started to get some of their stars back from injury but this is a team who have just five wins in 14 Premier League away games this season. What’s worse is that they’ve only drawn one of the remaining games, meaning they have eight defeats to their name.

A large part of that is the way that Postecoglou sets the team up, with Spurs playing on the road very similar to how they do at home. That means plenty of attacking soccer but also a lot of chances at their own end too. They’ve only failed to score four times on the road this year but still can’t win many games because they concede too many. Exactly half of their eight away defeats have involved them finding the back of the net and this is a team that constantly throws games away, despite scoring.

We’ve seen both teams score land in all but four of Chelsea’s home Premier League games this season, and they will give Spurs plenty of chances to score. However, Spurs’ backline won’t be able to handle their attack and we’ll likely see Chelsea take the three points.

These teams met in December and it was a similar case, with Chelsea winning 4-3 on the road. What makes that worse is that Spurs held a 2-0 lead after 11 minutes but they blew it, courtesy of an attack-first philosophy.

This Chelsea team is blessed with speed on the flanks, as well as the guile of Palmer in the middle. They’re set up well to counter Spurs and should be able to take advantage if Postecoglou’s team isn’t at their very best.

Chelsea vs Tottenham same-game parlay (SGP)

Chelsea moneyline

Both teams to score — Yes

Cole Palmer to score

For our SGP we need to break down our best bet into two legs, meaning that the first two legs are for Chelsea to win and Both teams to score, both explained above. Then we’re going to supercharge the odds by adding a third and final leg. We’ll be taking Cole Palmer to score, which boosts the odds to +280.

The Chelsea star hasn’t been seen in competitive action for two weeks and wasn’t available for England during the international break due to injury but he’s expected to return this Thursday. Palmer started the season in exceptional form but has now gone 10 games, in all competitions, without a goal. Despite that, he’s still racked up 14 Premier League goals and his class is permanent. He’s coming into this game having not played for a couple of weeks and should be fresh. Spurs are defensively weak and the ideal opposition for Palmer to get back to his best. He scored twice when these teams met in December and has a great chance of getting back amongst the goals here.
