Venezuela vs Canada Prop Picks & Best Bets: Bello Bends One On Goal

Canada has been a defense-first team at Copa America 2024, but that doesn't mean Eduardo Bello will be blanked in the shots on goal column, as our soccer betting picks explain.

A Copa America semifinal berth is at stake when Venezuela battles Canada on Friday night in Arlington, TX.

Venezuela has been among the top goal producers in the tournament, while the Canadians made it through the Group Stage with a negative goal differential.

In the first matchup between these two nations since 2010, we’ve narrowed the pool of Copa America odds prop picks into three digestible bites for your betting enjoyment.

My free Copa America 2024 picks begin with Canada’s inability to hit the scoresheet.

Best Venezuela vs Canada prop bets today

Prop bet #1: No, Canada

For a little while, Canada looked like a team that had the talent and attack to score with the top teams in the world. That seems to be out of their system, gone when John Herdman and his system veered off after the 2022 World Cup.

Under the reigns of Jesse Marsh, Canada’s scoring has suffered while its defensive game has tightened. That includes holding the opposition scoreless three times in the last four games. It also means just one goal for the Canucks in the last five international games – by Jonathan David, in their 1-0 win over Peru.

With talented midfielder Tajon Buchanan done after breaking his leg in practice, it wouldn’t be a stretch to suggest Canada’s strategy will be to sink deeper into a defensive shell rather than try and open things up.

Prop bet #2: Rondon runs into another

The next couple of props will focus on Venezuela’s top scoring threats.

Salomon Rondon is in an eight-way tie for second-most goals in the tournament with two, while also adding an assist, getting his foot involved in half of Venezuela’s goals at Copa. No surprise there, as the 34-year forward is his nation’s all-time leading goal scorer with 41 to his name.

Rondon has been all over the field for the Venezuelans trying to generate chances, with at least four shots recorded in every game. With a trip to the semi-finals on the line, Rondon should again be active and involved.

Prop bet #3: Bello appeals

One of those players in that glut tied for second in goal-scoring is Rondon’s teammate, Eduardo Bello. His tallies came against Ecuador and Jamaica, with the Mexico game being the only one where he's been held off the scoresheet.

Bello registered one shot in every game so far, with two credited as shots on goal, and seems like a good bet to get another on Friday.

Canada’s focus has been on defense, but that doesn’t mean shots aren’t getting through. Canada has allowed at least four shots in every game at Copa, and Argentina, Panama and Chile have combined to put 21 shots on net.
