The first Premier League game of the New Year sees an all-London clash between Brentford and Arsenal.
Arsenal will be looking to get their title challenge back on track, but they could struggle without Bukayo Saka, which is why my Brentford vs. Arsenal predictions have Under 2.5 goals being scored.

EPL predictions for Brentford vs Arsenal
My best bet:
Under 2.5 (+150 at TonyBet)
My analysis
Arsenal enter 2025 with their Premier League title hopes still alive but on life support. They’re nine points behind top-of-the-table Liverpool, who also have a game in hand. That said, we’ve seen teams crumble before and it wouldn’t a surprise to see the chasing pack close on the leaders over the next few weeks and months.
For host Brentford, it’s another season of mid-table Premier League security. They’re 10 points clear of the drop with a host of teams acting as a buffer between them and the relegation zone. In truth, they don’t need to worry about going down as they have a capable squad, an excellent manager, and the teams fighting it out at the bottom of the table aren’t nearly as good as they are.
Arsenal come into this in strong form, unbeaten in eight games with a fantastic record against Brentford, winning each of their past five Premier League matchups against their London rivals. For my best bet, there’s another market that leaps out. I'm taking Under 2.5 goals at odds of +150.
A look at Arsenal’s record away from the Emirates tells us that this team is built to be more defensive on the road. They’ve scored a similar amount of goals home and away, with just a one-goal difference across nine matches. The Gunners have given up just 10 goals on the road, the second-best defensive record in the league away from home.
The Arsenal attack hasn’t been quite as dangerous as it has been in previous years, and we’ve seen Under 2.5 goals in 55.6% of Arsenal’s games at the Emirates. That increases to 66.7% on the road. In fact, the Over has cashed in just three of their nine road trips in the 2024-25 season.
With Bukayo Saka being out, it further damages Arsenal’s attacking play and it’s noticeable that they struggled to create great chances against Ipswich on Friday despite having 68% of possession. Without Saka’s directness and passing ability, they aren’t as creative in attacking positions.
Brentford vs Arsenal same-game parlay (SGP)
The Arsenal attack may struggle to create goals, but they are still a great defensive unit and have conceded fewer goals than anybody else in the Premier League. There’s too much quality on the field for Arsenal to leave without three points, especially given that Brentford have just one win in their last five.
Let's wrap this SGP by backing Arsenal to keep a clean sheet and to not see both teams score. As mentioned above, this Arsenal team have the best defensive record in the Premier League and have consistently shone defensively under Mikel Arteta. Their back four is well organized and should be able to deal with Brentford, a team they’ve kept a clean sheet against in their past three trips to this stadium in all competitions.
