Finland vs England Predictions & Picks for Sunday's Nations League Match

The writing was on the wall for England in their last match as they fell 2-1 to Greece without their captain in the lineup. With his return imminent, Sam Farley believes Harry Kane will not only score but lead England to victory vs. Finland.

Find out why I'm backing the England skipper to get on the scoresheet in my free betting picks for Sunday.

Finland vs England picks and predictions

My best bet:
Harry Kane to score (-114 at TonyBet)

My analysis

Sunday’s Finland vs England game offers both teams a chance for redemption following embarrassing 2-1 defeats. The hosts lost 2-1 to Ireland on home soil, giving up a goal in the 88th minute despite holding a lead for the bulk of the game.

Then there was England — who were humiliated at Wembley Stadium after a deserved beating by Greece.

The England result was the most shocking with Lee Carsley’s team heavy favorites in that contest. Instead, the points went to Greece who now lead League B Group 2, with England sitting second ahead of Sunday's opponents.

What made the England game so dire was the manner of the performance. It wasn’t even close, they were outplayed by Greece and looked terrible in possession. The England squad is packed with top talent but Carsley made the most rudimentary of mistakes, he thought that he could squeeze in all the best players, without worrying about how they’d work together. It seems unlike what we’ve seen of Carsley during his time managing the England Under 21 team, and perhaps he tried too hard to take the opportunity to fit everyone in, while Harry Kane was out injured.

It was an experiment that failed and failed so badly that it might have cost him the opportunity to take the England job full-time. This Sunday he is set to welcome Kane back to the team, with reports that the Bayern Munich striker will be fit enough to play. The team will play with a striker as their focal point, something which would force Carsley into making some decisions and not trying to fit Bukayo Saka, Jude Bellingham, Phil Foden, Anthony Gordon, and Cole Palmer into the same team.

It's also good news for Kane who will fancy his chances of adding to his 68 goals for his country. Finland have given up over two goals per game so far in the group and indeed allowed Kane to score twice when the teams met at Wembley last month. The 31-year-old has been in electric form for his club too, scoring four times in two Champions League games, as well as scoring five in six in the Bundesliga.

Should he start, and it looks like he will, then he’ll face a poor Finnish defense, and with the likes of Cole Palmer and Anthony Gordon behind him, there should be a directness to how England plays and opportunities for teammates to get him the ball inside the box.

Finland vs England same-game parlay (SGP)

Harry Kane to score

England moneyline

Under 4.5

In addition to our best bet for the game, we’re going to back England to win. They simply can’t afford to lose after the horror show that was Wembley on Thursday. That defeat was something that’ll probably do the team good in the long run and ensure that they focus on a smarter team selection, rather than just selecting the 11 best players without thought of how they’ll fit together. A coherent England team should beat a Finnish team who are yet to pick up a point in this season’s Nations League.

The final leg of the SGP is Under 4.5. All three of their Nations League games have had three or fewer goals and you’d have to go back 13 games to find the last time an England game had four or more goals. Finland will try and keep this tight, while England haven’t yet shown a truly terrifying attack under Carsley.
