When Juventus faces off against Lazio on Thursday in the quarterfinal of the Coppa Italia, it could be their final chance at obtaining hardware this season. Max Allegri’s side was heavily punished following a transfer accounting scandal, seeing them move from outside title contenders to middle of the table.

For the visitors, the match presents an opportunity to add yet another impressive victory to their ledger. Maurizio Sarri’s squad is coming off a series of impressive victories, and a rare triumph at Allianz Stadium could springboard them towards their sixth Coppa Italia triumph since the turn of the century.

Can the Old Lady right the ship and take one step closer towards salvaging a tumultuous season? Or will Lazio run their unbeaten streak to six straight? We help you break down all the action in our Juventus vs Lazio picks and predictions for Thursday, February 2.

Juventus vs Lazio picks and predictions

The freefall that Juventus took down the table this past month is one that could doom lesser clubs to relegation. The 15-point deduction levied upon them saw them drop like a rock, and they’ve been struggling since, as they now sit 30 points behind leading Napoli in the Serie A table.

While they’re still very much safe, with a 10-point buffer above the drop zone and 18th-place Verona, supporters of the Old Lady are quite concerned with what they’ve seen of late. Just one win in their last four has been paired with a 2-0 defeat at Monza and a 5-1 thrashing at the hands of Napoli.

Injuries have been a real problem for the club, and Allegri is doing the best he can with the squad he has. The return of forward Federico Chiesa has been a welcome one, and his goal against Monza helped put them through 2-1 in the Round of 16. But he will not be available to Allegri on Thursday. Paul Pogba and Dusan Vlahovic also returned in their loss to Monza this weekend in Serie A play, and would help bolster the side on Thursday if they’re available.

Lazio won’t care who their opponent runs out, as they’re full of confidence and in outstanding form. A 1-1 draw with Fiorentina over the weekend was a disappointing result – ending a three-match winning streak – but they’ve lost just six times in all competitions this season, and haven’t lost in five straight.

Their mid-week clash with AC Milan saw them run out impressive 4-0 winners. Now they get captain and star striker Ciro Immobile back from injury as well, and he’s got a prolific history against Juventus.

Their last match before the World Cup break was a trip to Turin, as they suffered a 3-0 defeat to Juventus. But that wasn’t the same Juventus side that Lazio will come across on Thursday. The Old Lady hasn’t won in three straight, and Sarri has shown in the past that he loves to win cup tournaments – sometimes to the detriment of his league campaign.

Juventus fans haven’t been shy about booing their own players this season when they haven’t performed as expected, meaning this could be a less-imposing atmosphere than Lazio has been used to. They’ve lost their last four visits to Juventus by a combined score of 10-4, but their last visit in Coppa Italia resulted in a 3-1 victory.

This is the eighth time these two have faced each other in the Coppa Italia, and Lazio has a 3-2-2 edge over the Old Lady. While I’m not willing to bet they win in regulation, I love getting Lazio at such a good price against a struggling Juventus side regardless of where the match is being played. Take the visitors to advance and compound the misery of Juventus’ fans.

Juventus vs Lazio side analysis

Juventus have been terrific at home this season, winning nine of their 15 while losing just three. However, they’ve gone winless in their last two, including a shocking 2-0 defeat to Monza last weekend. They’ve also won just one of their last four, tasting defeat twice.

Lazio has won five of their 12 matches away from home, while having lost four. They’ve split their two matches away since the World Cup, but won 2-0 at Sassuolo last time out.

Juventus has not lost in the last six meetings with Lazio, winning four times. At home, they’ve won three of the last four meetings, with one draw.

Given this is a cup tie, a draw after regulation would mean extra time. That said, there is solid value in both the draw and the Lazio moneyline given Juventus’ struggles of late.

Juventus vs Lazio Over/Under analysis

The public is on the Under 2.5 quite a bit, with the price sitting near -140 or more at most books. If their past matches are any indication, that could present quite a bit of value. The last five meetings between the two have seen at least three goals scored in each, with four goals being hit in three of those.

Three of Juventus’ last four matches have seen three or more goals scored, with six goals being scored in two of them. Ten of their 15 matches at home this season have been high-scoring as well, with three or more goals scored.

Lazio have been involved in much more low-scoring affairs, with six of their last 10 seeing two or fewer scored. It’s been like that away from home as well, with the Under hitting in seven of 12. Lazio has also kept a whopping seven clean sheets on the road this year.

Juventus vs Lazio weather

The weather in Turin will be brisk on Thursday night. Temperatures will be in the mid 40s, and there will be a minimal breeze that shouldn’t impact proceedings.
