Two of the Premier League’s biggest clubs meet on Sunday, with Manchester City hosting Liverpool in a game that could dictate the winner of the title.
Many expected these two to be fighting for the title this season, but it’s going to be difficult for Pep Guardiola’s team to win it from here. However, a Liverpool win will surely mean they have one hand on the trophy.

My analysis
We have an important game in the Premier League this Sunday, with Liverpool visiting Man City. It’s been a hugely disappointing season for Man City, and in all reality, they’re out of the title race, as evidenced by their +9600 odds to win the Premier League.
However, this game at the Etihad could be hugely decisive in who wins that famous trophy, with a City win, or even a draw, giving hope to the chasing pack.
Liverpool would probably take a point in this game, but it would certainly give the likes of Arsenal a real belief that they could challenge the Merseyside club. Liverpool are rightly favorites given recent results for Man City, but a draw, at odds of +285, is arguably the best value bet for this game.
Liverpool started the season in electric form, but since the turn of the year, they’ve dropped slightly from those high standards. They’ve played 14 games since the turn of 2025 but have won just half of those, with three defeats and four draws in addition to those seven wins.
That’s in contrast to 23 wins, three draws, and one defeat in the 27 games from the start of the season until the end of 2024. There are also reasons for that, firstly, injuries, particularly in the defense, that have left them short at times.
Meanwhile, City have struggled this season with some embarrassing results. They got thrashed on Wednesday by Real Madrid with a 3-1 defeat, which is not a good representation of how outplayed they were.
However, it’s worth remembering that in the first leg of that tie, City were just minutes from beating Real Madrid 2-1 before a late collapse. They weren’t the best team that day but did a solid job in countering Real, and that could be the blueprint to face Liverpool here, save for the crumbling at the end of the game.
Despite a bad year for City, they’ve lost just three games at home in all competitions. They have been dominant at the Etihad, and we shouldn’t take a Liverpool win as a certainty.
Two of the past three meetings between the clubs have finished even and given that this game is at home, we should expect City to put up a real fight. Liverpool has won just one of the past six meetings between these clubs at the Etihad, with City on two wins and the remaining three finishing level.
We often see two good teams canceling each other out, and I’d argue that City’s struggles aren’t quite as bad as many think, while Liverpool’s recent performances haven’t been properly baked into these odds.
Go down the middle and take the draw at a big price.
