There are five Premier League games on Saturday with Manchester City vs Newcastle being the finale. This sees last season’s Premier League champions and treble winners hosting Newcastle, who finished fourth after a hugely impressive season. In many ways Man City vs Newcastle is the embodiment of the Premier League in 2023, they’re two very popular teams, with petro-state ownership who are duelling it out at the top of the English game.

Both come into the game in fine form too. Man City opened the new Premier League season with a difficult road trip to Burnley to face Vincent Kompany’s team under the floodlights and they won 3-0, starting quickly and putting Burnley to the sword. They followed that up by lifting the UEFA Super Cup on Wednesday, beating Sevilla on penalties having finished 1-1 after 90 minutes.

Newcastle had an even better start to their campaign beating Aston Villa, a team tipped to be finishing in or around the top six of the Premier League, 5-1. A five goal victory is a real statement of intent against any team in this division but to do it against Unai Emery’s Villa team was a real warning to the rest of the league.

What we saw in both games is that both Man City and Newcastle have brilliant attacking options at their disposal, which brings us to our best bet for Saturday’s game, which is for both teams to score. 

Afterall, these two teams are packed with great attacking talent. We know all about Erling Haaland and City’s tasty midfielders but Newcastle also have some great goalscorers in Alexander Isak and Callum Wilson. 

We’ve seen both teams give up goals in recent days, with Newcastle giving up a goal to Villa in their 5-1 win and Sevilla managing to net against Man City. It’s not an exact science to look back at games from last year but it’s worth noting that in the two Premier League meetings between the teams, Man City scored five and Newcastle scored three.

Also, if we look back at last year’s Premier League season we can see that both teams scored in a surprisingly high 63.2% of Man City’s games at the Etihad. Given the quality they have at the back, it’s worth flagging that they do give their opponents chances — including Burnley who managed six shots on goal in the season opener. When Newcastle were on the road we saw BTTS land in 63.2% of games including six of their final seven away games.

These are two great teams, packed with attacking stars and coached by smart offensive minds. Both teams to score may only come in at -133 but it feels like a smart wager.

Finally we’ll also be backing Newcastle’s Swedish striker Alexander Isak to bag a goal. He scored twice against Aston Villa last week, starting the season as well as he ended the last. In his opening season he scored 10 in 22 Premier League appearances and should improve on that this term.

The -145 available on Man City isn’t a bad price and given their dominance in recent years I couldn’t advise against it. That said I feel there’s better value in either BTTS or the Total Goals market for this one. If you fancy the draw you can grab +320 or alternatively a large +400 on the away win for Newcastle.

You’re getting -135 on Over 2.5 and +120 on the Under. I see both teams scoring in this game and I’m also pretty confident that we see a winner, meaning Over 2.5 goals in total.
